And The 2015 Emmy Nominations Are...

The 2015 Emmy nominees were released this week. Winners will be announced on September 20th on Fox. I'll make my predictions when we get closer to the date, but below are a few notes. I'm so happy that many of the shows I watch regularly have been nominated.

Thanks to a criteria change, "Orange Is The New Black" is now listed as a drama (instead of a comedy). The competition is obviously very tight with "House of Cards" and "Game of Thrones" in the same category. "OITNB" also has a best supporting actress nom for Uzo Abuda (who won last year) and best guest actor for Pornstache (I mean Pablo Schreiber).

I'm SO happy Tatiana Maslany was FINALLY nominated for outstanding lead actress.I was beginning to think it would never happen. She's in a super competitive field though. Any of these ladies could rightfully win (especially Viola Davis for "How To Get Away With Murder").

Kudos to Lily Tomlin for lead actress in a comedy. I was surprised how much I enjoyed "Grace and Frankie" and Tomlin was excellent in it.

Do you think "Transparent" will win big? My guess is "yes". It's up for best comedy and best actor in a comedy for Jeffrey Tambour as well as best supporting actress for Gabe Hoffmann.

"House of Cards" also has a number of nominations for best drama, best actor (Kevin Spacey), best actress (Robin Wright), best supporting actor (Michael Kelly) as well as best guest actor and best guest actress. "Game of Thrones" has tons of nomination including best drama, best actor, best actress  (two noms) and best writing. They should also rack up on technical and costume awards.

I would also like to see Kate McKinnon win for best supporting actress for "Saturday Night Live". She can do no wrong in my book.

"American Horror Story: Freak Show" has a number of nominations including best miniseries (I'm still not sure why it is classed as such) and best lead actress for Jessica Lang. There are three woman in the best supporting actress category-- Sarah Paulson, Angela Bassett and Kathy Bates. My vote is for Sarah for playing conjoined twins Dot and Bette. There were also best supporting actor nominations for Finn Wittrock (Dandy) and Dennis O'Hare. I hope Finn takes home the statue. He was so much fun to watch.

"Naked & Afraid" is up for best unstructured reality show. They have my vote.

"The Americans" which continues to be largely ignored  (and I dont understand why because the show is excellent) is nominated for best writing and best guest actress for Margo Martindale.
