Defiance Season 3 Episode 6 Review: Where The Apples Fell

The episode begins with Alak holding Stahma at knife point. Alak's mother did, after all, kill his wife Christie. But she did it to protect Datak and their grandson Luke. One of the servants gets Nolan. Meanwhile Stahma stomps on Alak's hand and calls him out for being a spoiled brat and a coward. "While you were captured, I thought of nothing but you. I destroyed the arch and betrayed my town to protect you from harm." Good for you Stahma. That kid needs a reality check.

Why Am I Always Saving Your Pasty Ass?

When Nolan arrives, the Tarrs try to smooth everything over. Alak is having none of it and tells Nolan they are VC spies. Datak and Stahma make a run for the hills. The plan is to escape town and go live on a boat somewhere. Datak heads over to Doc Yewll's place. Datak says "Are you going to insult me or help me?" Doc replies with "First one, then the other". I really wish Yewll got more air time.

Nolan confronts T'evgin regarding his knowledge of Stahma's working with the VC. He could care less. He's only in town to collect enough gulamite to power his ship. Kindzi is very jealous of Stahma. Apparently the Omec regularly have sex with family members. T'evgin says "Stahma means nothing. She is merely entertainment." T'evgin and Kindzi then kiss. Yuck! I could have done without that.

Alak & Irisa Would Make Some Interesting Babies

Nolan captures Datak (because, as we all know, Stahma has no intentions of actually leaving town). Nolan pumps him for info by threatening to kill Alak (who was in on the plan all along). Later Alak and Nolan share a drink at the NeedWant. He thanks Nolan for saving Luke. Alak and Irisa also share a moment. He again thanks her for saving his son. Does anyone else see a new ship sailing? Should we call them Alisa or Irilak?

Yep You're A Nut Case

Rahm's woman (who is Irathient) arrives at camp. She tries to talk some sense into him but Rahm is too far gone. He seems to be obsessed with the humans and decapitated heads. We also learn that he's gone rouge. The VC does not support Tak's plans. During some passionate love making, Rahm stabs Volubela and then tells the others she was a spy for the humans. This whips the troops into a frenzy. They will attack Defiance next week.

Braid 1, Stahma 0

Stahma shows up at Amanda's place with the gun she took off the deputy after she stabbed him to death. Stahma plans to use Amanda as a hostage in order to get the stasis net lowered. They throw paper weights and letter openers at each other and roll around on the floor a lot. ...Not that I'm complaining... Amanda calls Stahma a thug and blames her for killing those she supposedly loves (Christie and Kenya). Stahma finally knocks Amanda unconscious. She tells Amanda that she had amble opportunity to kill her but chose not too. She says "I hope you go to your grave wondering why". What do you think that means? Did Stahma spare Amanda because she truly loved Kenya? I'm not sure. Anyway, we then learn that Stahma has been stabbed in the side. The wounded Casti makes her way to T'evgin and collapses in his arms. We all know Stahma wont die but this will definitely put a strain on T'evgin and Kindzi's relationship. I cant wait to see the sparks fly.

Uh Oh, Looks Like I've Got Lady Problems

Favorite Quotes:

  • "While you were captured, I thought of nothing but you. I destroyed the arch and betrayed my town to protect you from harm....You ungrateful coward."- Stahma to Alak.
  • T'evgin: "Stahma was an available and very willing sex partner. I could care less about her politics." Alak: "This is gross."
  • Datak: "Are you going to insult me or help me?" Doc Yewll: "First one, then the other".
  • "Stahma means nothing. She is merely entertainment."- T'evgin to Kindzi.
  • "I hope you go to your grave wondering why."- Stahma to an unconscious Amanda on why she didnt kill her.
  • "I cant help it, its the damn braid."- Doc Yewll about why she cant help but like Amanda and her Braid of Justice (which has a life of its own on Twitter).

Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). The Amanda/Stahma fight pushes the episode into the four category. More of the same please! There wasnt much else going on in the rest of the episode except Stahm and Datak on the run, Rahm being a psycho, and us finding out that T'evgin and Kindzi were a little too close for comfort. Next week, Defiance is under attack.
