The Strain Season 2 Episode 1: BK, NY (Season Premiere)

"The Strain's" season premiere entitled "BK,NY" has all sorts of craziness going on. We catch up with each of the main characters (including vamp Kelly).

If I Was Stealing A Body I'd Find Someone A Little Less Conspicuous...Just Saying

First a cool flashback to young Abe. His bubba (grandmother) tells him the story of a kindly giant (Jusef Sardu) and his encounter with an evil monster in the woods. He takes over Sardu's body (thanks to his creative use of worms and projectile vomiting). Voila! We have "The Master" in his current form. The Master is ugly now but he was super ugly before. What's up with those freaky neck flaps? The creature terrorizes the nearby village kidnapping children every chance he gets.

Someone Could Use A Makeover

Back in NYC our crew is busy fortifying their hideout. Eph has started drinking again. Zach (who is played by a new actor) is still reeling from his mother's death. I really hope they give Nora something more to do this year. She has turned into a pretty good shot though. Dutch and Fet are working on gadgets to combat the vampires.

Abe Did Not Pinkie Swear So He Can Break This Alliance At Any Time

Setrakian is over at Quinlan's place with Gus. We learn more about the strigoi and meet three of the Ancients. They are asleep but can still communicate with Quinlan (and each other) telepathically. Abe agrees to join forces to fight their common enemy. Apparently there are seven Ancients total. The seventh is who we know as the Master. He is able to block the others from mind melding with him. The other three Ancients have a light snack of a poor bald naked guy. That was really freaky. Why do they all slap and scratch him before chomping down? Are they tenderizing the meat? Off Abe goes in search of a book called the "Occido Lumen". It will show him how to defeat the Master.

I Too Like To Dance Around My Dinner Before I Eat It

Everyone heads off to a storage locker to retrieve some of Abe's files. They are attacked by vamps and barely get away. They also meet a couple that becomes infected. Eph and Nora are trying to find a cure (so hopefully they can test with those two). Otherwise, they're dead anyway.

Meanwhile the Master says his body is shot and needs a new one. Whose will it be? There is some talk that he might want Zack. The Master also sends Eichorst to kidnap a bus of blind schoolchildren. They then bury them and use Kelly (who now has glowy red eyes) to resurrect them? Say what? That was freaky. Apparently the plan is to use the children as seers. Apparently this only works with children who were blind at birth (not if they became blind later).

I Cant Wait To Eat This Putz (Says Eichorst To Himself)

Uptown Palmer is doing his usual wheeling and dealing. He thinks he's special in the Master's eyes (but we all know otherwise). Palmer wants to buy a warehouse and needs to confirm all the drains are working. I have no idea what they're up to. A cute assistant named Coco enters the picture. Palmer is smitten.

Grade: 4 3/4 Monsters (out of 5). The show was a little long but I really enjoyed learning more about the Ancients, the Master's back story and whatever they plan to do with Kelly and the blind children (who are henceforth known as "feelers").
