Bedelia Is Might Handy With A Needle And Thread
Mason contemplates eating Hannibal. He even dreams about him served Peking Duck style. What a wierdo. Later Mason, Margo, Alana and Cordell see TV footage of Rinaldo found hanging. Mason is not happy. Later Mason tells Margo he wants them to have a baby (but, as you will recall, he had her uterus forcibly removed last season when she became pregnant with Will).
A Freaky (And Enjoyable) Trip
There's a strange kaleidoscopic scene of Alana and Margo having sex. At first I thought Margo was dreaming but nope. Alana's character has really gone off the rails this season...not that I'm complaining. I like her much better now that she has some fight in her. Alana's plan is to turn Mason over to the police as soon as he captures Hannibal. Margo is apparently in on it. She says she has to get something before Mason goes to jail. "How are you at sperm harvesting?" Yuck! And for anyone keeping score, Margo has slept with Will and Alana. Alana has slept with Margo and Hannibal. Did Will and Alana sleep together? I dont think so. Hannibal and Will apparently want to sleep with each other but havent gotten around to it yet.
Chiyo confronts Bedelia who is shooting up (for medical purposes of course). Chiyo says she wants to cage Hannibal. We know that never works well. Bedelia says "I thought Will Graham was Hannibal's biggest mistake. Now I wonder if it isnt you." Speaking of Will, he and Jack show up at Bedelia's soon after. I always wondered how Bedelia planned to get out of this mess. She pretends to be hypnotized and only answers to Mrs Fell. It seems like a pretty flimsy alibi to me (but what do I know). Jack says "You've been freebasing your alibi. To tell you the truth, I'm not even mad at you. I'm impresses because you're still alive." Next the Italian police show up. Bedelia still pretends to know nothing about her husband's activities. She just keeps saying "I am Lydia Fell". Too funny. If you're telling a lie, you need to stick with it regardless of evidence to the contrary. Way to go girl! Have I mentioned today that I love Gillian Anderson? I should say that at least once per day.
To Be Honest, I'd Rather Be Home Watching NetFlix
Will finds Hannibal at the museum staring at a Botticelli. Will asserts that "You and I have begun to blur... We are conjoined". When they exit the museum, Chiyo (the ninja assassin) has the bead on them with her rifle. We think she's going to shoot Hannibal but just as Will pulls a knife, she shoots him instead. Writers, can you please give Chiyoh something else to do besides hurt Will? Last week she threw him off the train (after a kiss). This week she shoots him. Anyway, Hannibal tries to remove the bullet from Will's shoulder... because we need to spend more time on closeups and those two touching each other. Later Will asks "What's for dinner? Hannibal replies with "Never ask, it spoils the surprise." Dude you SERIOUSLY do not want to know.
Hmmm, What Ya Got In That Big Rifle Case?
Jack and Chiyo end up on elevator together. Chiyoh's case is none too suspicious. Haaaa. Jack's got her number though. We hear sizzling from a frying pan. Is it Will? Not yet. He's still tied up at the dining room table. Will whispers to Jack that Hannibal is under the table. Just then Hannibal reaches out and cuts Jack's Achilles heel. Jack, you are so stupid. Everyone knows the killer is either under a bed or a table. Get with the program!
Jack, Are You Just Trying To Get Killed At This Point?
Next Hannibal has both Will and Jack drugged and tied up. This hearkens back to last season's finale at Hannibal's house. In Will's hallucination, Hannibal turns into Stagman (ie Wendigo). Will and Hannibal's images form in smoke only to be completely merged into each other. We can no longer tell where Will begins and Hannibal ends. Hannibal takes out a saw and says "Now we have the chance to chew quite literally what we had been chewing figuratively." Yep Will is what's for dinner. The CSI team is going to have a hard time figuring out all that blood splatter. The next scene has Hannibal and Will swinging upside down among some slaughtered hogs. Mason approaches them with "Gentlemen, welcome to Muskrat Ranch."
Oh Drat! All The Blood Is Rushing To My Head.
We also dont know how they got back to the US. Maybe we'll find out next week. Bedelia gave him up. When we last saw her, Bedelia was being interrogated by a detective. Chiyoh (who was still in the building) could have discovered them. Or maybe Mason had some other lackeys at work in Florence (plus he was trying to bribe the entire police force). On a somewhat related note, how is Will going to survive having his head cut open? A Band-aid is not going to fix that.
Where Do I Begin And You End?
Favorite Quotes:
- When Will asks Jack when he didnt finish Hannibal off, he replies "Maybe I needed you to." OK, I'm all for a Will/Hannibal smackdown but that response is just not realistic.
- Jack: "Will you slip away with him [Hannibal]?" Will: "A part of me will always want to." Jack" "You must cut that part out."
- "This is where I leave you or more accurately where you leave me...When they come for you, and they will come, what will you say of me?"- Bedelia to Hannibal.
- "You might make a meal out of me yet...but not today."- Bedelia to Hannibal.
- "I thought Will Graham was Hannibal's biggest mistake. Now I wonder if it isnt you."- Bedelia to Chiyo.
- "You've been freebasing your alibi. To tell you the truth, I'm not even mad at you. I'm impressed because you're still alive."- Jack.
- "You and I have begun to blur... We are conjoined."- Will to Hannibal.
- Will: "What's for dinner? Hannibal: "Never ask. It spoils the surprise."
- "Now we have the chance to chew quite literally what we had been chewing figuratively"- Hannibal to Will before he saws into his head.
- "Gentlemen, welcome to Muskrat Ranch."- Mason to a hanging Hannibal and Will.
Grade: 5 Monsters (out of 5). Perfection! This might be the best episode thus far of the season. We FINALLY have all the main characters within orbit of each other. I've said it a million times before but there is simply nothing else like "Hannibal" on television. It is visually stunning. The show has always been heavy on imagery but this season they're knocking it out of the park.
The parallel scenes of Bedelia sewing up Hannibal's wounds and the police cutting the rope holding a dead Rinaldo were quite effective. The smoky images of Will and Hannibal were also excellent. The mirror images of Alana and Margo having sex were also compelling (and fun to watch).
This week brought sad news that "Hannibal" will NOT be picked up by Netflix or Amazon per this IGN article. It's not looking good for "Hannibal" but I'm holding out hope as long as possible.
