Hannibal Season 3 Episode 7 Review: Digestivo Should Have Been The Series Finale

"Hannibal" received more bad news this week. No only did NBC cancel the show, but they moved the remaining seven episodes to Saturdays (so it's loyal fans have a harder time finding it). Guess who Hannibal will eat next for being rude? Pretty shameful treatment especially since "Hannibal" delivered what was definitely the best episode of the season and possibly the second best of the entire series (only behind the season 2 finale).

I Think We're In A Pickle

"Digestivo" shows the specifics of how Hannibal and Will found themselves strung up at Muskrat Ranch. The flashback picks up where we left off. When we last saw Jack, he was strapped to a dining room chair while Hannibal cut into Will's brain with a saw. Pretty gruesome stuff. The Italian police arrived. Luckily Chiyo and her sniper rifle are outside and she shoots them dead. Does anyone else find it humorous that she's strolling around town with a big gun and no one seems to notice?

No I'm Not Up To Anything Suspicious. Why Do You Ask?

Back at the pig farm, Mason is being his usual ass hat self. He tells Hannibal and Will what he plans to do to them. He will eat Hannibal piece by piece while wearing Will's face. Ok then. Will doesnt like the idea so he takes a bite out of Cordell. Hannibal is branded. Nothing really phases him though. He just looks amused throughout the episode.

Mason teases Margot saying he saved some of her eggs before having her uterus ripped out. There is already a baby Verger growing in another surrogate. The women visit Hannibal (who is naked and hog tied). He suggests Margot kill Mason because it would be "therapeutic". Hannibal asks Alana to cut one of his ropes and leave the knife. He "promises" to do the rest and he always keeps his word. Bad idea Alana! Now Hannibal's going to sneak up on her at some point and eat her (because he previously promised he would).

Margot and Alana find the surrogate. It is... wait for it... it is a pig. Mason had the baby put in the pig's womb. Man, that is really sick. The woman can see there is no fetal heartbeat. Alana cuts the baby out. I assume it is dead.

Well That Plan Didnt Go As Expected

Next Mason wakes up with what he thinks is Will's skinned face on. Instead it is Cordell's. Psych! It's not nice to tease Hannibal Lecter. Alana and Margot corner Mason. He reminds Margot she cant kill him. If there is no heir, the Verger fortune will go to the "Southern Baptist Church". Haaa, too funny. But the trick's on him. The girls had his prostrate stimulating and have some Mason juice in a tube. They break the underfloor eel tank and drown him. His pet eel crawls down his throat. Bye bye Mason. Ya big freak.

Payback Is A Bitch

Meanwhile Hannibal walks out of the barn holding an unconscious Will in his arms. As they head through the snow Chiyo takes a few shots. I dont think she's trying to kill anyone since she's a pretty good shot. Hannibal and Chiyo chat. It's something about him being caged and the periodic table of elements. Sorry, I took a bathroom break. Next Will wakes up in his house with Hannibal over him. Will gives Hannibal the breakup talk. He doesnt want to be together anymore. He will not come looking for Hannibal. Will says "You delight. I tolerate. I dont have your appetite." Followed by "I dont want to think about you anymore." Poor Hannibal's little heart is broken (if he has one). I was worried he would kill Will but instead he looks forlorn and walks out the door.

I've Changed My Status On Facebook Back To Single

Later Jack and the cops arrive. Will says Hannibal is gone but just then he emerges from the shadows. Why did Hannibal not escape when he had the chance? He says "I want you to know exactly where I am. And where you can always find me." Yep, somebody's got it really bad.

Next week we begin the Red Dragon arc. I'm sad to say we may not be seeing that much of Hannibal during the rest of the season. I hope I'm wrong.

Death Toll:

  • A bunch of crooked Italian cops
  • Cordell (lost his face)
  • Mason (swallowed an eel)
  • Baby Verger (I assume he's dead)
  • Will is NOT dead. However he seems to have recovered miraculously from having part of his head ripped open (among other things).

Favorite Quotes:

  • "I dont want to think about you anymore."- Will to Hannibal.
  • "You delight. I tolerate. I dont have your appetite."- Will to Hannibal.
  • "I want you to know exactly where I am. And where you can always find me."- Hannibal to Will on why he turned himself in.
  • "The most stable elements Chiyo appear right in the middle of the periodic table-- roughly between iron and silver."- Hannibal to Chiyo.
  • "Mason will deny you. He will always deny you. You know you'll have to kill him."- Hannibal to Margot.

Grade:5+ Monsters (out of 5). Perfection! This really should have been the series finale (since I could not think of a better ending). I loved Will's "break up" with Hannibal. Mason waking up with Cordell's face, the baby removal from the mother pig and Mason's death by eel really pushed this episode over the top.
