Bates Motel Season 3 Epis 6-7 Reviews: We All Go A Little Mad Sometimes

The crazy continues to escalate in the last two episodes of "Bates Motel" entitled "Norma Louise" and "The Last Supper".

Norma finally finds out Caleb is staying with Dylan. To say she is upset would be a major understatement. She storms out of the house with Norman screaming behind her. She buys some new clothes, has a makeout session with a stranger and then heads over to her new friend Certified Family Counselor James' house.

My Son Killed My Husband... Oh Drats Now I Have To Kill You As Well

Excellent acting by Vera Farmiga. She really sold it both with her breakdown with James and her tearful reunion with Caleb. Can someone PLEASE give that woman an emmy?

Everyone Is Concerned About Norman

Meanwhile Norman is not taking his mother's absence well. He is convinced she has abandoned him forever. He has blackouts in front of Dylan and Emma.

Dylan catches Norman in his mother's robe making breakfast in the middle of the night. Dylan confronts him but soon realizes that Norman is blacked out (and thinks he is Norma). Yep Mother has reared her ugly head again. How long before she takes over entirely?

Quick Norma's In Possible Danger!

In other news, Romero gets shot but recovers quickly. He is approached by Marcus (the guy that wants his job). Romero responds by killing him. That was quick. I thought they would duke it out at the end of the season. Romero later makes Gunner show him the contents of the flash drive. We already knew it was a ledger of the money from drug transactions. Romero seems his mother's name on the list. She committed suicide a long time ago. Romero's father who has been in jail for years was using her name. Romero is very upset. He gets drunk and calls Norma for a ride. She makes him rest at her house for a while. Her makes a drunken pass at her (but in a sweet way).

I Find Taxidermy To Be Calming

Norma has Certified Family Counselor James talk to Norman. Norman is having none of it. He first accuses James of sleeping with Norma (which is true isnt it?) He next wants to know if she was good in bed. Uhh... yuck! James then asks Norman if he wants to have sex with his mother. Very bad idea. Norman starts to strangle him but finally lets go. James runs screaming out of the house. Will James survive the season? I'm guessing no.

Dylan wants to go on a gun run for Chick in order to make $25,000 so Emma can get a lung transplant. Dylan and Emma have bonded recently so he's trying to do whatever he can to help her. Caleb is firmly against it. But Emma will die soon otherwise. Speaking of Caleb, he arrives at Norman's house with flowers and a heartfelt apology. She invites him in for dinner...but just this one time.

It's dinner time at the Bates house. Norma, Norman, Dylan, Emma, Caleb and Romero are there. We're treated to Norman playing the piano and Caleb singing. It is an uplifting occasion for everyone except Norman. He's not happy with these men in his home taking his mother's attention away. Sure Norman is a "psycho" murderer but underneath he's just a big baby. Learn how to share dude. There's plenty of Norma to go around. But I digress. Everyone eventually leaves the table but Norman remains alone. Since this episode is titled "The Last Supper" it's the calm before the storm. Someone is going to face the wrath of Norman/Mother soon.

And in the final scene Norman hovers over a sleeping Norma. He caresses her. Who knows what's going on in that freakish mind.

What A Creepster!

Favorite Quotes:
  • "We all go a little mad sometimes"- Norma to Norman about why she took a time out.
  • "Norman stop it. You're acting like a twit. Its not masculine and its not attractive."- Norma.
  • "That's nothing new for Norman. There's always something dead in the basement."- Norma. Little does she know that someday she will join the other dead things.
  • "Cant a woman get in a friggin mood for one night without the whole world coming to an end?"- Norma. My thoughts exactly. Get it together kids!

Grade: 5 Monsters (out of 5). Two excellent episodes. We know Norman is going to do something bad any moment (which is what makes the show so enjoyable). There are only 3 episodes left in the season so he doesnt have much time.

And I'm said it before but Vera Farmiga and Freddie Highmore are excellent in their roles. I was skeptical when I first heard this show was in production. How could it to the original "Psycho"? But now it has taken on a life of its own. The characters are believable and sympathetic. I just wish we had a different ending to this story.
