Secrets & Lies Epis 7-9 Reviews: Running Out Of Suspects

"Secrets & Lies" has spent the last three episodes going through the remaining suspects. Next week will be the finale. I've enjoyed the ride but this show only works if you have more potential murderers to consider. In "The Cop", "The Son", and "The Mother" we are encouraged to consider Dave, Christie and/or Jess as Tom's killer.

Yep She's Cray Cray But Still Good At Her Job

"The Cop" takes the focus off of Ben for a while. Researcher/reporter Arthur Fenton is obsessed with bringing Cornell to justice regarding her stalking behavior. He tricks Ben into a visiting a girl in prison. Jennifer turns out to be Cornell's daughter. Uh oh. Yet another bad move by Ben. Is that guy ever going to learn-- apparently not. Jennifer sends Ben to meet Seth Goring's family. Seth was accused by Cornell of murdering a little girl several years ago. He ended up committing suicide. The wife claims he was innocent but the son later says he's guilty. Why we had to spend some much time on this-- I'm not sure.

Ben is still trying to get rid of his flashlight (and possible murder weapon). Remember he wrapped it up as a present (what a really BAD idea). Then on the way to the Christmas celebration he buries it in the woods near a mall. OK then. Cornell and crew later search for the flashlight but it is gone because... wait for it... Dave dug it up. Either Dave is the best friend in the world or he's up to something. And it looks like Cornell is FINALLY turning her focus away from Ben.

I Dont Think Dave Is The Murderer But I Still Dont Trust Him

In "The Son" we get to see a touching scene between Tom and Ben. Ben tells Tom about the tooth fairy and leaves money under his pillow. Again this puts Ben as the last person to see Tom alive (other than the killer). Much of the rest of the episode is dedicated to Ben and Dave recounting what happened that night. They were at a bar and Dave decided to slip a little something into Ben's drink. Again, that guy behavior is very strange. He has crossed over from BFF into the freakyland.

At the end of the episode Ben's suspicions turn to Christy as he finds a large amount of money hidden in the garage.

Christy Is Not The Murderer. She's Just Tired Of Her Cheating Slacker Hubby.

"The Mother" first gives us Christy as a suspect. Dave says fry her since she's trying to divorce Ben. Then the focus turns to Jess. Yes she's taking medication for bipolar disorder and likes to throw scissors but wouldnt hurt her son... or would she? Ben, following his usual MO, snoops through her house while she's away. He finds a urn that has a child's name on it. Is Tom the second child she has lost? Cornell has decided that "the killer was female". OK then. That eliminates half of the of population. Bring on the finale!

Jess Is Not The Murderer

Grade 3 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). Its time to wrap this show up. It has been fun but Ben must be the dumbest person on the planet. He screws up at every turn. My vote for the murderer continues to be the youngest Crawford daughter Abby. She had a lot of air time in the past few episodes for apparently no reason (other than to remind us that she' still around).
