Movie Review: Dead Rising WatchTower: Because We Can Never Have Too Many Zombies

Just checked out "Dead Rising Watchtower" on Crackle. I must confess. I knew Crackle (Sony streaming service) was around but had never checked it out before. Crackle, what else you got that I might be interested in?

"Dead Rising" is the movie version of the video game (with a few changes). There's "Dead Rising" 1, 2 and 3. This apparently takes place between 2 and 3. We see several familiar faces. Jesse Metcalfe of "Dallas" fame is a reporter Chase Carter. He's looking for a big scoop to put him on the map. Meghan Ory (Red Riding Hood) and Keegan Connor Tracy (Blue Faerie) are from "Once Upon A Time". Keegan is also Miss Watson from "Bates Motel" (may she rest in peace). There's also Virginia Madsen from too many shows to remember (although "Candy Man" and "Witches of East End" are two of my favorites).

I wont go into all the specifics here but a wannabe reporter gets quarantined inside a city with lots of zombies. His camerawoman/camerdaperson Jordan makes it outside and tries tirelessly to get him out before the military nukes the city. FEZA is a thinly disguised version of FEMA. A vaccine known as Zombrex is supposed to keep zombie symptoms in check if taken daily (but something has gone wrong with a batch). Chase is joined by Maggie (her daughter is a zombie) and Crystal (I wont give anything else away about her).

There are some great zombie kills (many using everyday objects). Hello sledge hammer/saw and sledge hammer/weed whacker. I need one of those. There's an endless supply of disgusting zombie. Clowns are scary enough normally but zombie clowns are the worst YUCK!!! The cutovers to a TV anchor and her guest (zombie killing expert Frank West) are fun. Frank was apparently the main character in the game. Sorry I didnt see it.

Grade: 3 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). I cant say it's a "great" zombie movie but if you're looking for mindless zombie killing fun, check out "Dead Rising". Please report back on how you liked it. Now I'm off to build my sledge hammer/weed whacker.
