Orphan Black Season 3 Episode 8 Review: The Clone Club Is Pleased To Welcome Krystal

In this week's episode entitled "Ruthless In Purpose And Insidious In Method" we get to know Krystal. We knew of her existence from earlier in the season when the Castor boys were trying to stuff her into a trunk. Luckily Krystal escaped with her life. I've said it many times before but Tatiana Maslany is simply brilliant. I continue to be in awe of her acting skills. How many more clones could she possibly have up her sleeve?

As you will recall from last week, Rachel said she could crack the secret code in "The Island of Dr Moreau". In return, Rachel wants Sarah to steal Krystal's ID. Sarah and Felix reluctantly agree. Meanwhile Delphine visits Crystal and gets the "best manicure of her life". She secretly discusses having two more possible monitors for her (since Krystal's previous boyfriend/monitor was killed).

Shay Is Too Perfect Not To Be Up To Something

Speaking of Delphine, she runs into Cosima giving Shay a tour of the lab. Cosima is book smart but dumb when it comes to matters of the heart. Shay is MOST DEFINITELY a spy. Cosima later tells Delphine that she had a near death experience but came back just for her. They share a passionate kiss. Why cant these two kids get back together?

PS Please Dont Let Cosima Die Or I Will Be VERY, VERY Sad

Over at the Hendrix household, Felix informs Donnie and Alison that they need to take in Helena and Grace because it's "their turn". Donnie is none too sure about Helena. She wins him over by saying he's "big like a baby bull". Donnie lures Jason to the house. He doesnt like that Jason tried to kiss Alison (who was really Cosima). He slaps Jason. Jason then proceeds to pummel him. Poor Donnie fights like a girl. We know from next week's previews that Helen doesnt take kindly to someone hurting her brother-in-law. I fear Jason may be dead.

Felix next visits Krystal at the nail salon. He uses his real life accent as a disguise. That was funny. Krystal tells him about her encounter with the Castor twins. He eventually steals her ID and leaves (but not before giving her a pep talk). He feels horrible about what he's done.

The plan is to smuggle Rachel out of the Dyad Institute by using Scott's gaming buddies. It works...for a few minutes. Scott takes Duncan's book home only to have it stolen by Rudy. I was seriously worried that Denise (the cat) was going to be hurt. Cosima confesses to Delphine about the book. No, they didnt make a copy. Delphine promptly fires Cosima and Scott.

But psych! They did make a copy after it. They're not idiots ya know. Rachel (who is hiding at Mrs S's house) deciphers some of the info. The first page reads "In Londontown we all fell down, and Castor woke from slumber. Find the first, the best, the cursed. The original has a number." Is it H46239? Dr Nealon arrives before they can figure out the rest. He takes the book. And no they didnt make TWO copies of the book. They were barely smart enough to make one. Rachel starts seizing out. She is rushed to the hospital. Nealon tells the others Rachel has drifted into a coma and may die.

But what actually happens is... Krystal was switched with Rachel. Krystal is now in a coma. Rachel has fled the country and will be fitted with a prosthetic eye. Oh, how I will miss calling her Cyclops!

Next week everyone is off London in a race against the clock. Cosima only has a month before she gets sick again. The Castor boys are fighting for their lives as well.

Grade: 4 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). I loved meeting Krystal. I just hope she survives her encounter with Rachel. The misdirects (with Scott helping Rachel during her slo mo escape and Dr Nealon trading Krystal for Rachel were great fun). The kiss between Delphine and Cosima was bittersweet. If those two kids dont get together in the end, I'm going to be upset.

I'm not sure who can be trusted on the show at this point. Rachel and Dr Nealon definitely can not. I think Mrs S is a spy. Shay cannot be trusted either. I hope Delphine can but I'm still not sure. Wouldnt it be great fun if in the end it was Felix who was working with the baddies all along? He's the one who is least likely to be suspected.

There are only two episodes to go in season 3 but have no fear. "Orphan Black" has been renewed for another year. Yeah!
