Mary and John are able to rescue Little John from the clutches of Marburg. The Countess gets her relic back so she's not out yet. On a side note, the Countess certainly does like to name drop. So she knew the Virgin Mary too? Who doesnt she know? Cotton will attempt an exorcism on John Junior.
In Sickness & In Health... Unless Of Course You're A Witch
Hawthorne is not successful in having Cotton killed. Anne and Cotton exchange vows. When he finds out she is a witch, he's going to be crushed. Of course it was Anne's spell that made him love her to start with.
Issac finds Dolly's dead body on Marburg's ship. Poor Issac. He is the most moral person on the show and can never catch a break.
We see Mary in the stockades while the townspeople throw produce at her. They havent accused Mary of murder. Instead she is punished for adultery/fornication with Wainwright thanks to Sebastian. The Countess visits Mary to gloat and finds out what Cotton and John are up to.
Issac Is Made As Hell And Isnt Going To Take It Anymore
Issac crashes George Sibley's memorial service. He brings Dolly's dead body into the church and calls the citizens of Salem out on their hypocrisy. Magistrate Hawthorne is his usual asshat self. He's also now under the control of Marburg which makes it even worse.
Untie These Ropes Father So I Can Give You A Big Old Hug
John and Little John do some father son bonding. John Senior is so dumb. Cotton specifically told him not the go inside the circle and what do he do?
Issac ends up in the stockades with Mary. He reminds her that whatever happens she always has a choice. The Countess bails Mary out. Anne gives Mary a pep talk. She plans to drown herself but Sebastian shows up. Sebastian still wants Mary (which is the only thing the Countess says he can NOT have).
The townspeople enter the woods at night with torches. Cotton takes JJ and runs for it. John Alden stays back to stall the Countess. Cotton encounters Anne in the woods and gives her Little John to hide. But it's not Anne. It's Marburg... I think. I'm not entirely sure. Meanwhile Sebastian stabs John Alden. Is he really dead? Nope, that was too easy.
Favorite Quotes:
- "My heart? You're welcome to it but it might be a little bitter for your taste"- Mary to the Countess.
- "Find it, destroy it and the bitch can be run through with a dull knife"- Mary about Marburg's body aboard the ship.
- "Please father, I promise I'll be good."- Demon Little John.
- "No demons may speak the "Our Father". The words scorch their tongue."- Cotton about John Jr.
- "There something inside of all of us"- the Countess as Anne.
Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). Kudos to Oliver Bell who plays John Jr. He's a good little actor (especially with those demon scenes). What are your predictions for the finale? All I'm asking if that we wrap up this storyline and, if there is a season 3, move on to something else. I would love to have Lucy Lawless back again but not sure how that could be done if the Grand Rite fails. I'm also not sure how Mary could stay in Salem. Everyone now knows Mary is a witch (except for Hawthorne).
"Salem" continues it's tradition of having characters disappear for long periods of time. Earlier in the season it was John Alden and Issac. Now its Mercy and Tituba. Wainwright is also MIA since he's apparently still in Hell. Will all these characters show up during the finale? I hope so.
