Wayward Pines Epi 5 Review: You Cant Handle The Truth

There were LOTS of big reveals in this week's "The Truth". Whether or not I actually believe what we were shown is a whole different story. Sorry, I'm basically a distrustful person. We've only in the middle of the season (10 episodes total) so I assume there's many more twists to come.

Ethan, Theresa and Ben are separated in this episode. I love of each's part of "the truth" was revealed at the same time. Very effective use of cross cutting. Remember last week Ethan scaled the wall around the town. His plan was get help in Boise. On a side note, how many shells does his shotgun hold? He shot like 15 times without reloading. Uhhh, that's not how it works. Theresa sells her first house (well actually they're free so she gave it away). Ben and two other new kids attend orientation with the creepy Mrs Fisher. I half expect Megan to turn into a lizard and eat the children at some point.

Mmm, You Look Tasty

And now the highlights of the episode:
  • Mrs Fisher reveals that its not 2014. It is in fact... wait for it... 4028. Wow, that's a long time in the future. The world has been decimated by "devolution". And oh yeah, dont tell the adults cause they cant handle it. The students have a little candle lighting ceremony afterwards. Uh, is it just me or shouldnt everyone know "the truth" so they dont try to escape? I guess not.
  • Other notes on orientation: Holding it in that all white room added to the freaky factor. What is up with Mrs F's weird hand gestures? I still think she has hypnotized the kids.
  • Ethan comes face to face with the "aberrations" (or "abbies" for short). They look like creatures from "The Descent". They're all pale and hairless. Actually they look just like me. I dont get out much.
  • Mr Johnson is a new resident. Yep he arrives after a "car accident" and ends up in the hospital (like everyone else). He clues Theresa in on the hibernation chambers.
  • Ethan learns that Dr Jenkins is actually David Pilcher. He is the creator of Wayward Pines. He's also a scientist-- of what I'm not sure. Just keep an eye on him. That guy can NOT be trusted!
  • Big Bill (Theresa's new boss) is definitely a creepster. I hope Wayward Pines has a HR department cause she's going to need to file a sexual harassment complaint.
  • Remember back when Ethan saw the cargo area with all those different doors? I still think this whole thing is an alien experiment. I would suspect the government but I dont think they could carry off something this extensive.
  • If these people are the "chosen" ones why do they keep killing them off? If there are a limited number of normal humans left on the planet I'd think their lives would have greater  value-- so they might have tried a little harder to keep Beverly and Pope alive.
  • If the world is destroyed, where did they get a helicopter?
  • At first I thought Dr Pilcher was time traveling-- in which case why not go back in time and prevent this whole thing from happening? But now it seems Dr P anticipated devolution and was planning the ark as far back as the 1990s (if not earlier).
  • If all of this is a hallucination because Ethan hit his head, I'm going to be super pissed!
  • There wasnt nearly enough Pam is this episode. I just LOVE her.
Sneaky Snake
Favorite Quotes:
  • "If there is one hole, one crack, the water will get in and we will all drown"- Mrs Fisher to the kids.
  • "The first generation of of Wayward Pines"- Mrs Fisher to the kiddies regarding the truth.
  • "Looks like you could use a nurse"- Pam to Ethan as he gets onto the helicopter.
Bye Bye Boise

Grade: 5 Monsters (out of 5). I'm giving this episode such a high rating because it did what TV episodes typically do NOT do--- reveal "secrets" before the finale. Maybe this is all a misdirect and we'll end up somewhere entirely different by the end but it's still a bold move. Kudos to you "Wayward Pines".
