Obviously There's Nothing Strange Going On Here
The principal of Wayward Pines (Brad's wife Megan) is super creepy. She is trying to turn Ben against his parents by saying he cannot trust anything they say. Oh yeah, in her past life she was a hypnotherapist. That should come in handy.
Citizen's Arrest. If It Was Up To Pam, Everyone In Town Would Be "Reckoned"
The realtor Peter McCall is dragged into the police station by Pam and her goons. She demands a "reckoning". Three strikes and you're out. He has spray painted on the side of a building "In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act."
Theresa makes a quick trip to the toy store. She and Kate quickly talk while a music box is playing. As I suspected last week Theresa originally studied to be an agent. That's where she got her mad skills. Theresa tells Kate she quit because she wanted her family to come first.
Burke finds hidden files on a number of the town's citizens. He asks Peter about his past. He was previously disloyal to his wife. Peter doesnt know how long he's been in Wayward Pines but initially liked being there. We also learn he walks with a cane because he once tried to scale the wall to escape.
Meanwhile a girl from school named Amy saddles up to Ben. She pumps him for info about his past. He asks her about the wall and the animals on the other side (which obviously makes her uncomfortable). In "Orphan Black" terms, Amy is Ben's "monitor".
The Burkes and the Fishers meet for dinner. Everyone in town is of course there since-- where else would they go? Ethan asks about the Reckonings. Pam raises a toast to Sheriff Burke and to justice. She goes a little off track. Pam is such a zealot. One day, she and Ethan are going to have a major smackdown.
Theresa and Ethan encounter Dr Jenkins outside a night. He has cross pollinated two different pines. OK then. That's a strange hobby and he's a strange guy.
Peter Has Left The Building... Errr Town
In an attempt his life, Ethan takes Peter to the fence. Peter says time has caught up with him though. He runs into the electrical fence and kills himself. Theresa is instructed that, due to a recent opening, she has a new job as realtor.
Pam later confronts Ethan. "I know you let Peter do your job for you. You might have fooled everyone else in town... but I'm a registered nurse". Haaa. Pam is still the best part of this show. I love her.
Can Someone Remind Me Why I Married This Jackass?
Ethan tells Theresa to play along while he goes for help. Under cover of darkness he climbs the wall. Two questions: Number 1: Why take a shotgun with you when climbing? You have a handgun and Number 2: What was that weird creature that was at the top of the wall?
Pam Vs Megan: Who's The Biggest Creepster In Town?
Random Observations:
- For a place where you're not supposed to talk about your past, they do a lot of it. We learn what happened to Peter right before he ended up in Wayward Pines. It had something to do with Pam and a hotel room. Insert joke here.
- Mrs Fisher is super freaky isnt she? I half expect her to either be an alien or to eat one of the children.
- I know Ethan is the main character but how does he get away with breaking so many rules without being killed? Do the "powers that be" have bigger plans for him? Cause he's WAY beyond three strikes at this point.
- If they have cameras and mics everywhere I dont think playing music or running water is going to keep them from hearing conversations. Just a hunch.
- I'm still sticking with my theory that the only way to get INTO this town is to be killed (and possibly reanimated or cloned).
- Thoughts about Wayward Pines: Is it a government experiment? An alien experiment? A reverse Jurassic Park with the dinosaurs outside? I have no idea.
- The radio only has one guy playing the piano. What's the point then?
- There seem to be a lot of people who cheated on their spouses in this town-- Ethan, Kate, Peter, etc. Is that related to this whole mystery somehow?
- What's up with the two sets on numbers on Peter's file? There was one when he first arrives (death #1) and a second when he scaled the wall (death #2). It would be a hoot if we see Peter (and everyone else that previously died) in a future episode.
Favorite Quotes:
- "We will all miss Sheriff Pope. He did retire rather abruptly."- Megan Fisher.
- Mayor Fisher: "How do you like our little town?" Ethan: "I love it. The mountains, the pine trees, the look of fear in everyone's eyes.
- "The thing about this town. They focus on the children... it's all about shaping the mind."- Brad Fisher.
- "Perhaps the best things in this world require the biggest sacrifice."- Dr Jenkins.
- "Is it keeping us in or something else out?"- Peter about the wall surrounding town.
- "I know you let Peter do your job for you. You might have fooled everyone else in town... but I'm a registered nurse".- Pam to Ethan. That made me laugh out loud. I love Pam!
- "I guess when you kill somebody in this town, you get their job."- Ethan to Theresa.
Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). Another great episode. There were several fun lines. Pam's "You cant fool me, I'm a registered nurse" is my favorite. WWP keeps up it's one death per episode pattern proving that no one is safe (except maybe Ethan). I continue to be intrigued by the mystery so will keep coming back for more.
