Where to begin? I thought this was a great season finale with lots of "Holy Shtako" moments. Here's the main plot points:
- Datak wins the mayoral election thanks to some sneaky snake help from the Earth Republic. The ER says they backed him to get control of the mines but does anyone believe that? Well apparently only Datak.
- Datak realizes the truth about Stahma and Kenya's relationship. He is going to kill them both. Stahma looks truly terrified for the first time. She tells Kenya she'd like for them to run away together. Kenya thinks she is trying to pull a fast one again. Don't trust that woman (er I mean Casti)! Kenya meets Stahma in the woods. Bad idea. I would announce to Stahma that everyone in town knows I'm in the woods with YOU so she wouldn't kill me. Stahma gives Kenya a flask to drink from. Well of course that is a poison and she's not going to drink it. Uhh the poison is actually ON the flask, not IN the flask. I didn't see that one coming. I also can't decide if the scene with Stahma holding Kenya's unconscious body was sweet or creepy or both at the same time. I really hope Kenya is not dead. The conflict between the two characters is one of the best parts of the show.
- The ER lead by Black Jonah is indiscriminately attacking townspeople. BJ is basically a tiny Nazi in a black uniform. They are looking for the gold and silver thingys (Kaziri). They have captured Yewell and threaten to shoot Tommy. Irisa turns herself in to save him. We find out from the doc that there are two Kaziri inside Irisa. Yewell works with Irisa to knock else everyone unconscious while she is pretending to remove the devices. I still don't know if Yewell is a good guy or bad guy. Hopefully next season well get a better idea
- An epoch battle ensues. Nolan is killed. Wait... He can't be killed. He's a main character! But given that Defiance likes to knock off people, I'm not sure.
- Irisa follows Little Irisa into the mines. It turns out there is a 3000 year old ship in the mines with a weapons system aboard that can either destroy all aliens or all humans. Why is it in every scifi show theres an old spaceship laying around? Anyhow Irisa is the key to making it work (I think). She flings herself into the energy field and thus resurrects Nolan. But is she dead now too? I don't think so (although she may be a different energy form for while). If they keep killing off characters, well be forced to watch Datak talk to himself all the time. Nolan wakes up just in time to see lots of ERs attacking the town.
- Datak found out about ERs true plans and killed the colonel. The last scene has Stahma and Datak looking very trapped and talking about how much they miss home. I would think they were going to have a suicide pact but they love themselves far too much for that.
- “There's only one other person who's done what you just did, and I pay her by the hour"- Datak to Stahma after he realizes she's been with Kenya.
- “What's a golf ball?”- Doc Yewell after someone threatens to pound her "golf ball" head in.
Grade: 5 (out of 5 Monsters). It doesn't get much better than this. I can't wait till next season which is like a whole year away.
