The season FINALLY picked up when Deb tried to kill Dexter (by grabbing the wheel and driving them both into a lake). Of course Deb then went back and rescued Dexter before he drowned. Not sure those two cancel each other out though.
Other happenings in episode 4 "Scar Tissue" and episode 5 "This Little Piggy":
- We discover Dexter and Deb's father committed suicide. He was apparently distraught that Dexter was a serial killer.
- Masuka finds out he has a daughter (thanks to the sperm bank). Her name is Nikki Walters and she may be up to something. I'm hoping she's a killer. We definitely don't have any lady serial killers on this show.
- Zach Hamilton, an obnoxious rich kid, has killed his father's mistress. That story line is boring but looks like he will be back next week. And does Zachary have any eyeballs? When he was checking Dexter out, I didn't see any eyeballs. That's freaky.
- Quinn passes the Sargent's exam.
- AJ Yates (officially known as "The Brain Surgeon" but I'm calling him "The Scooper") kidnaps Vogel. He apparently is seeking revenge for Vogel recommending that he have brain surgery (seems reasonable). Dexter and Deb werent in much of a hurry to find her. First they have a heart to heart discussion. Then Dexter has to stay for dinner since his nanny (Jamie) tried to hook him up. Vogel psyches out AJ by acting like his mother. Good thing cause he was able to snip off one of her toes (hence the title "The Little Piggy"). D & D rescue Vogel. Dexter spears him with a curtain rod while he was hiding under the bed. Who knew curtain rods were so dangerous?
- It seemed FAR too easy to get rid of the Scooper. Somehow I don't believe it was Yates. And I still don't trust Evelyn Vogel. I'm hoping that she turns out be a serial killer and was responsible for Harry's death. Maybe she is even the Scooper herself. In the last scene on the boat, Dexter should have chucked her into the water.
- I also don't trust Elway as far as I can throw him. And who is named "Elway" these days? He's very suspicious. And who is Cassie and what's she up to? Obviously I have been watching this show too long because I think everyone has serial killer potential.
- For anyone who doesn't know, Dexter (Michael J Hall) and Deb (Jennifer Carpenter) were previously married IRL. That therapy session with Vogel had me wondered if they had ever gone to therapy together. If so.... awkward. I don't know how they keep acting together after being divorced. I wouldn't be in the same room with my ex, little alone pretend I cared about them.
Favorite quotes:
- "Debra is appears you tried to kill your brother"-- Dr Vogel. Well who hasn't been there?
- "I couldn't image my life without you in it."- Deb to Dexter on why she saved him from drowning.
- "I wanted to be with family"- Dexter to Deb and Vogel after he takes them on his boat while he dumps Yates' body. Ah, how sweet.
Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). Things are picking up. Let's hope they keep up the momentum going into the last half of the final season.
