Siberia Episode 2 Recap: A Question Of Reality (or Dont Eat The Shrooms)

If you missed last weeks premiere, the basic premise is 16 contestants arrive by helicopter in Siberia. They must survive the winter in order to win/split the $500,000 prize. The only way out is to quit and to request an airlift home. There's an Australian host (Jonathan) who tells us "They're in a real-life social experiment with no games or rules". Last week Hippy Guy (Tommy) was mysteriously killed.

This week the host says Tommy died from a fall. No one's buying that (especially not his friend Daniel). It appeared from the video that he was repeatedly beaten to death. When the host asks if anyone wants to leave, George is the only one to go. So long George. We didn't really get to know you or your pink jacket.

What else happened? They got a map with some cryptic directions from the Revealer (which is just weird). There might have been a rifle but its MIA. There were some bullets that were stolen from Nekko. They found food in a shed. Victoria ate some poisonous mushrooms and while in a delirious fit said "You're all dead". She later decides to leave. Wise choice me thinks. Daniel finds Sabina in a cave and sees a drawing of some big black blob and some hunters. They get chased by something in the dark. I think it's the smoke monster from "Lost".

Who I would want to be marooned with in Siberia (in order of best to worst):
  • Nekko- number 1 guy I would trust. Hes the only one that mentioned rationing food.
  • Sam- solid decent guy and a team player.
  • Carolina- seems like a good person who cares about people more than cash.
  • Sabina- she is freaky an may be a ghost but I think we'll see redemption for her later.
  • Daniel- seems like a decent guy but not too smart to be wandering around in the woods alone.
  • Johnny- he has some skills but he's a jerk and would stab you in the back in a second.
  • Esther- she is at the bottom of the list because she encouraged Victoria to eat uncooked mushrooms and furthermore, when Victoria became deathly ill, she didn't tell anyone what the problem was. She would kill you in your sleep for the money.
  • I'm not sure about the other characters yet since we haven't seen much of them.

From Wikipedia:

Episode 2 "A Question of Reality"
Jonathan returns to ask who has decided to leave the competition and George is the only one to do so and leaves Siberia via helicopter. The remaining twelve contestants receive bullets for a rifle and their mission is to find the rifle somewhere in the woods. One of the groups believes they have located the area, in which the rifle is supposed to be, but are confused when they find it missing. Daniel wanders off into the woods to find the location where Tommy was killed. Victoria unintentionally eats the uncooked poisonous mushrooms, which Esther witnesses, but doesn't say anything and knows that they are not cooked. Neeko finds the bullets missing and immediately believes Johnny took them and the rifle. The contestants receive a key to a shed full of food, which Miljan and Irene had found in the previous episode, this causes the contestants to argue about taking food for themselves or rationing it for the group. Victoria then begins hallucinating and being completely not herself and saying "Green and fire" and that the sky is green and on fire. After a night of Victoria fighting the illness, she wakes up and is back to normal. Daniel finds Sabina mysteriously in the woods and they return at nightfall. Victoria decides to leave and Daniel goes chasing after her asking what she had seen in her hallucinations, she then tells him that the group is going to die and thus she leaves.

Grade:  3 3/4 Monsters (out of 5). I wasn't sure last week but the show is growing on me. Well see what the next few episodes hold.
