The Bridge Episode 2 Recap: Calacas In Your Closet?

How are you liking "The Bridge"?  So far I'm really enjoying it. I see like "Hannibal", they are intent on making me learn new vocabulary words though. This week's episode is entitled "Calaca".

Per Wikipedia, calaca (Spanish pronunciation: [kaˈlaka], a colloquial Mexican Spanish name for skeleton) is a figure of a skull or skeleton (usually human) commonly used for decoration during theMexican Day of the Dead festival. Tracing their origins from Aztec imagery, calacas are frequently shown with marigold flowers and foliage. As with other aspects of the Day of the Dead festival, calacas are generally depicted as joyous rather than mournful figures. They are often shown wearing festive clothing, dancing, and playing musical instruments to indicate a happy afterlife. This draws on the Mexican belief that no dead soul likes to be thought of sadly, and that death should be a joyous occasion.

No sure how "joyous" the victims of the serial killer/ killers are feeling but I like the calaca concept. Anywho, when we last saw Charlotte, she had found a key of her dead husband's and was about to unlock a door in the basement. It looks like a tunnel. Its for human trafficking? Who's the skeleton in there? And I don't trust Cesar. He obviously knew... Something. And that was not three bean casserole in Lyell Lovitt's dish. Its hush money. No thanks says Charlotte. She's in over her head.

And I agree with what others have said. I don't think scary sideburns guy Stave Linder is the killer because they've tried to hard to make him appear to be the killer. It's a psyche out.

Those Mexican immigrants trying to get across the desert was touching. I don't know how anyone out there survives and, worse yet, they're being poisoned with tainted water. They found 9 bodies at the shrine.

I continue to find Sonya's character fascinating. We see her pick up a guy at a bar but doesn't spend any time with idle chit chat or cuddling. It's usually the other way around. She does say "thank you" and gives him a quick little wave as he leaves. I'm surprised she has sex at all. It's a fine line to make such a character likable to the audience so hopefully the writers will make her a little more human in future episodes.

For all Sonya's prickliness, Ruiz seems to get along in any social situation. Maybe something will rub off on Cross.

Grade: 3 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). I'm still finding the characters compelling enough to keep watching.
