The Blacklist Episodes 8-9 Recaps: Whole Lotta Killing Going On

I found Episode 8 "General Ludd (Number 109)" interesting since a good amount of time was sent on Liz's personal life. Episode 9 "Anslo Garrick (Number 16)" seemed drawn out at times but that was a shocking ending. Here's the highlights of both:

Episode 8 "General Ludd (Number 109)":
A baddie named General Ludd is sparking anarchy around the world. They spend a lot of time chasing him around. Red of course finally apprehends him and leaves him for the FBI and Liz to find. Meanwhile Sam (Liz's adoptive father) has terminal cancer. Her husband Tom flies to the hospital to see him but all flights have been grounded by the time Liz is ready to leave. Red calls her and offers his private plane. She declines. Red goes to the hospital. Sam wants to tell Liz the truth. Red says Sam was more of a father to her than her real father (is that Red or are they still trying to throw us off?) could have ever been.  They share a special moment... and then Red takes the pillow and smothers Sam. Oh dear!!! I mean the man was going to die soon anyway. You didn't have to do that. Just when you start to sorta like Red he goes and kills someone. And in the final scene Red tells Liz she needs to talk about her father in order to get through this difficult time. We see them sitting outside chatting.

Episode 9 "Anslo Garrick (Number 16)":
Red is researching a woman named Lucy Brooks, AKA Katherine Wayne. Who is she? Is she Red's daughter? Is she Liz's sister? And in the main story, there is an assassination attempt on Red from Anslo Garrick. Garrick's reason for wanting to kill Red-- Red shot him in the head previously and he's severely disfigured and partially paralyzed. That would tend to make a guy hold a grudge.

Anyway, Donald Ressler gets shot in the leg. Red locks himself in his chamber with Donald and tries to stop the bleeding. Most of the episode is spent with him covered in blood. Red gives Ressler a transfusion and cauterizes the would. Where did he learn to do that-- Evil Villlian Medical School?

Anslo says he will shoot people if he doesn't get the code to the cell. Harold has it but refuses to give it up.  Liz spends most of the episode stuck in the elevator and wandering around the FBI building. Garrick kills Luli. Of I didn't think that would happen. Next he's going to kill Dembe. Dembe says he is not afraid to die. He and Red share a prayer together. That was a touching moment. There is a shot and fade to black. How many people actually died in this episode? I guess we wont know till next week when we'll see part 2.

Etcetera:
  • What kind of stupid name for a militia is "The Wild Bunch"? They should be shot just for that.
  • “The storm has come. It will wash away the greedy and when it does you can thank General Ludd.”
  • "Ours is a friendship forged once in this life, and again in the next."- Dembe to Red before he dies (we think).

Grade: 3 Monsters (out of 5). I know lots of people love this show and I keep watching it but it's still not on my "must see" list. I just don't feel personally attached to the characters and Megan Boone has never grown on me. I know, it's not you "The Blacklist", it's me (or maybe it really it is you, I don't know).
