The Walking Dead Episode 8 Recap: Too Far Gone Or My Alternate Title Holy Shit (Mid Season Finale)

DAMN YOU ONE EYE BRI!!!

Do NOT read this review if you have not already watched "Too Far Gone". I don't want to ruin it for you because it was a GREAT episode.

The governor makes a speech to the TeamRV folks about taking over the prison. He tells them the people in the prison are the ones that destroyed Woodbury and killed everyone (which of course is definitely not true). He had kidnapped Hershel and Michonne at the end of the last episode so he's using them as hostages. So they take the tank and off they all go to the prison (except for Lily and Megan).

Lily is watching Megan play in the dirt near a creek. A walker is trying to cross. She pulls out the gun. But he is finally dragged under by the current. We think the threat has passed. But just as Megan pulls up a sign from the dirt that says "Danger Flood Zone", a buried zombie comes out of the dirt and bites her. She screams. She's a goner for sure. We see blood.

Flashback to the prison. Brian is telling TeamPrison to leave. Rick says they can all share the prison (he's always trying to find a kinder gentler way out). The Governor does not want to compromise. All Hell breaks loose.

Brian beheads Hershel. I REALLY HATE YOU BRIAN!!!! What an awful way for such sweet caring man to go. Michonne rolls to safety during the gun battle. Does that really work in a gunfight? If so I'll have to try it sometime.

Lily brings the limp body of Megan to Brian. Brian promptly shoots the child in the head to prevent her from becoming a zombie.

The kids in the prison grab some guns and start shooting people. Good for them. Unfortunately though they shoot Alisha who I really liked. Previously she had told Tara to make a run for it and she would meet her. It appears that Tara survives the battle.

Darryl uses a zombie as a body shield and dispatches with some people. He then throws a grenade in the muzzle of the tank. Mitch pails out. But Darryl sees him and shoots him with his bow. Bye Mitch, ya jerk!

During the mayhem, the rest of TeamPrison leaves in the bus. On it are most of the supporting characters and Glen. This leaves most of the main characters abandoned at the prison-- Rick, Carl, Maggie, Beth, Darryl, Tyrese, Sasha, Bob and the kids.

Rick and Brian beat the crap out of each other. We think Brian is going to strangle Rick (cause it's looking really close, he turns all blue). But just then Mich stabs Bri with her sword. Why does she not finish him off then and there? Have you not learned anything from this show yet? Then we see Lily standing over Brian with his gun. We hear a shot. Are we sure she shot him? I'm not going to be sure till I see his cold dead zombie body.

And in one of the final scenes we see lots of zombies pushing towards the prison. One steps on the chess piece that Megan and Brian had previously been playing with. It's the king that she painted an eye patch on. How symbolic!

Rick and Carl look for Baby Judith but all they find is her bloody baby carrier. I predict someone has her. They wouldn't kill an innocent baby... or would they? And in the last scene Carl helps an injured Rick away from the prison as zombies surround it. Rick says "don't look back".

Favorite quotes:
  • When Hershel asks the Governor how he can threaten Hershel's daughters if he knows what's it like to have children, Bri coldly says “Because they’re not mine.”
  • "You can’t think forever. Sooner or later, you gotta make a move.”- Brian. This is from last episode but is still appropriate.

Grade: 5 Monsters (out of 5). A perfect episode! This was the mid season finale so we have to wait till February to see more of "The Walking Dead". I'm already sad.
