When we last visited Arcadia, Rachel had been kidnapped by Gary (the cousin of the guy that Caleb beat to death) and taken to a cabin in the woods. "Schemes of the Devil" picks up with his threatening to cut her with a knife. He wants to determine what she really is. Rachel tries to scare him by saying she's already dead so he cant kill her. And even if she is somehow killed she will just haunt him forever instead. I'm not sure scaring your capture is the best approach in hostage situations but what do I know. Anyway Tom, Bellamy and Sheriff Fred arrive. There is a struggle. Rachel is shot and dies in Tom's arms. That was a major tear jerker. I was waiting for Rachel to wake up or disappear or something. But she was carried away in a body bag.
That night Bellamy is driving somewhere (since one of his main jobs on the show is to drive between scenes). Who does he find in the road? It is Rachel. Wow, this show just keeps getting weirder and weirder.
In story line B, Jacob is missing but is found in the park playing with a "deadie" girl" named Jenny. When Lucille and Henry arrive Jacob says "they're like me". The girl and her parents appear to be from the 1950s.
Deadies are now descending upon the town in droves. One comes into the police station. There's a Korean soldier at the diner. Two WWI aviators are wandering the streets. Fred runs home hoping to find his wife Barbara. Maggie has the same idea but she is not there. Maggie goes to Sam's (her mother's boyfriend). There is mom. Did she just arrive or has she been hiding there for some time?
In story line C, Maggie and Dr Ward are still trying to figure out what's going on with the deadies. They determine that Jacob's blood can cure cancer. OK then. Ward is still pushing for Jacob to go the NIH for testing. We know its only a matter town before the big bad government/military show up and threaten everyone.
In unrelated news, can Bellamy please become to love interest of Maggie? That will at least give him something to do. I'm not sure what his purpose is on the show.
Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). Great acting during the Rachel death scene. Mental note: I'm all out of Kleenex. What will happen in the season finale next week? It should be exciting but if you're expecting answers, you may be disappointed.
