Outside the US and Latin America the show is available on Netflix. I wish it was available on Netflix in the US since every time I turn to El Rey it says "temporarily off air". I am currently paying to watch episodes on Amazon. Below is an overview of the first episode. I'll do more as time allows. And the show must be popular since it was already renewed for a second season.
The series opens with natives chasing a woman through the woods. They throw her in a snake pit and a big ass snake crawls in her mouth... and we're off to the races.
In the next scene two Texas rangers (Earl and Freddie) are discussing Earl becoming godfather to Freddie's child (Billie). They also discuss the Gecko brothers. Richie broke Seth out of jail. They then robbed a bank in Abilene stealing 30 million dollars and killing at least six police officers as well as taking a woman hostage.
Earl (Don Johnson) goes into a liquor store to pee. What he doesnt know is that the Gecko brothers beat him to the store. They are holding two girls and the clerk hostage .Richie hears voices and sees visions of a woman everywhere. We later find out her name is Satanico Pandemonium. When Earl comes out of the bathroom, one of the brothers shoots him in the chest. A hostage situation ensues.
Flashback to Earl starting his day. His life is a lonely one. He recounts how little time he had with his daughter (24 days in one year) due to his job as a ranger.
Richie calls Don Carlos (a wealthy drug dealer) to help them escape their predicament. Carlos says he cant help. They'll have to get across the border themselves. He tells Seth to go to the a bar called "The Titty Twister". What he didnt tell them is the bar is populated by vampires.
A crazy gun fight ensues. We think Earl is dead. Nope he's alive. He shoots Rickie in the hand. Rickie shoots Freddie. We think he's dead. Rickie shoots Earl again. I think he's really dead this time. Then Freddie gets back up. Turns out he had a bulletproof vest on. He recounts Earl's final words to him. "Promise me something. You kill these bastards no matter what it takes even if you have to follow them to the gates of Hell". Kill em for me." Freddie says he will.
Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). A good start to what looks like a promising series. I cant wait to see the rest (especially when they finally get to the bar).
