Blindspot Season 1 Episode 1 Review: Whole Lotta Ink (Series Premiere)

A heavily tattooed woman is found in a duffel bag in Times Square. On her back in large letters are"Kurt Weller" and "FBI". The woman has no memory of her name, past or where her tattoos came from. And so the story goes from there. What is the mystery behind the Jane Doe.

"Blindspot" airs on NBCs on Sundays at 10 ET. It stars Jaimie Alexander (Lady Sif from "Thor"). Sullivan Stapleton plays Kurt Weller. Other supporting characters include: Assistant Director Mayfair, agents Reade and Zapata, lab tech Patterson and psychologist Dr Borden.

There is a Chinese address and date tattooed behind Jane's ear. She apparently can also speak Chinese. They go to the address. It is the home of a man named Chao. The FBI breaks into a locked room filled with equipment for making plastic explosives. Chao leads a video that says among other things "Today the reckoning has begun.".

Jane hears a man downstairs abusing his wife. She opens a can of whoop ass on him and another guy. What other special skills does she have? They find a Navy seal tattoo and think she might be special ops.

Chao plans to blow up the Statue of Liberty. Everyone hightails it over there. Jane gets shot. Kurt and Chao battle it out. Chao has a knife to Kurt's throat. Jane drops him like a hot potato. She then has a flashback to a man at an outdoor shooting course.

And in the final scene, the same man visits Chao in the hospital. Chao says "Everything happened as it was supposed to". The mystery man (MM) says "You were supposed to die". I think he's a goner. Flashback to Jane and MM. She voluntarily agreed to take the drug that caused her amnesia.

Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). A good first episode. The opening was very cool. How much did it cost to close down Times Square to film that scene? The actors are compelling. Jaimie Alexander is believable as the lead. I'm just not sure yet how this show will go on a weekly basis. Will Jane and Kurt run around each week saving lives based on her tattoos? If so, how exciting will that be? Time will tell if "Blindspot" keeps me and other viewers coming back for more.
