In "The Dog" everyone has to make a quick exit from the shop because there's a fire next door. They avoid the mob but Mrs Salazar is badly injured when some heavy scaffolding falls on her leg. Luckily Travis' truck has not been destroyed. They head for Madison's house. Along the way they see a hospital in chaos, police firing on zombies and the lights slowly going out all over LA.
NIck and Madison quietly discuss their situation. He's concerned there arent enough drugs to make it to the desert. He is a junkie after all. The family has a bonding moment over a game of monopoly. We learn that Madison's husband is dead. Not sure what the story is with that.
Their across-the-street-neighbor Peter is zombified and roaming around. Nick knows where a shotgun is hidden. They all run to Susan's house. Meanwhile the zombie neighbor is in their house eating a dog. Poor puppy!
There's Something I've Been Meaning To Tell You
Just then Travis arrives. They must stop him before he goes in the house. Madison and Nick make a run for it. Alicia goes back for the shotgun shells. But oops there's Susan's feet sticking out from under the door. She's looking kinda purple. Alicia tries to escape. Susan almost gets her. Chris helps Alicia over the wall. She thanks him by breaking his nose.
Quiet Everyone! Peter Is Trying To Whisper Something In My Ear.
Meanwhile Travis tries to talk to the zombie neighbor. Peter responds by trying to eat Travis' face. Daniel grabs the shotgun from Madison. The first shot partially blows Peter's head off but doesn't stop him. The second shot (close range) does the trick. Daniel later shows Chris how to use the shotgun. But Travis and Madison don't like guns. Well, ya better get over it quick people!
Daniel Is My New Hero
Outside they stare at Susan through the fence. Is she sick? Nope, she's dead says Nick. He may be blunt but someone needs to give the family a reality check. Everyone goes into the house for the night. Susan stays outside.
Susan, Have You Done Something New With Your Hair?
The plan is to leave for the desert in the morning. Madison and Alicia want to go NOW but Travis advises against it. Don't travel in the dark people! Daniel and Griselda say they will stay behind. Ofelia thinks its a really bad idea. Daniel had previously told Travis he called his cousin to pick them up (but we know there is no cousin).
Everyone takes their own sweet time getting ready in the morning. What's there to be a hurry about? Ummm, maybe the zombies? Travis finds Madison at the fence. She has a hammer and plans to put Susan out of her misery. Travis talks Madison down. What if there's a cure? I admire that you're such a caring person Travis but decisions like this will bite you in the ass later (literally).
As they're driving out of the neighborhood, Madison sees Susan's husband coming home. She tries to warn him. And just then the military arrives. Susan gets shot in the head and hubby is dragged away (because he's been in contact with infected blood). The soldiers take down everyone's names. Travis tries to protect the Salazars by saying they all live together.
The Calvary Is Here... Or Not
I guess there's no escaping town now. Daniel says "It's already too late."
Dumbest Moments:
- Playing monopoly while zombies lurking outside. Seriously?
- Taking your garbage out to the curb. There is no garbage pickup during the zombie apocalypse!
- What's with the power going off and on and off and on? It should go off once and stay off.
Smartest People:
- Daniel- if he can survive a civil war in El Salvador, he can survive zombies
- Nick- drug addicts know stuff
- Madison- she has no prior experience but seems to be a quick learner
- Liza- not sure of her skills but she was on "Orange Is The New Black" so that should count for something
- "Good people are the first ones to die."- Daniel.
- "Your father and I have been in worse situations and we're still alive."- Griselda.
- "If I ever end up like her. Take care of it. Don't let Travis do it. It would break him."- Madison to Liza.
- "A gun doesnt care how you feel about it."- Daniel.
- "I'm relieved. I thought it was going to be awkward having two wives in the house."- Travis to Liza.
- "They dont die. They keep coming back."- Nick.
- "Cavalry's arrived. It's going to be get better now."- Madison. Uh, maybe not.
- "It's already too late."- Daniel
Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). A little too much time was spent on hanging around but overall a solid episode. Three were some good scares. Most of the survivors finally have an idea what they're dealing with (not that they can do a whole hell of a lot about it).
