ZNation Season 2 Episode 3 Review: Vehicular Zombicide

"Z Nation" pays homage to "Mad Max: Fury Road" this week with an episode entitled 'Zombie Road". The zombies effected by the nuclear blast are known as "blasters". OK, so maybe the name is not the most original. These blasters are faster and meaner than your run of the mill zombie. They hunt in packs and are hellacious to kill. One crawls around backwards on his hands and feet (crab style). Not sure what that is about. And, worse yet, Murphy's zombie whispering powers have no effect on them.

Our team encounters a caravan. A guy named Sam Custer (who likes riddles) is the main driver. We also meet his nephew Wrecking Ball (who is a little slow). Custer is trying to get the injured to Edmonton Canada. Why? Apparently it's cold there and zombies dont like the cold. It turns out Sam's son Zeke is in the medical wagon and he's not looking good.

Operation Bite Mark goes along for the ride. It's a good thing since bandits on ATVs attack several times. Cassandra chomps down on any they don't shoot. Problem solved.

Just Stopped For A Light Snack

The final sequence is a good one. Blasters begin chasing the vehicles. Then the sick in the medical truck all turn into zombies and poor Addy, 10K, Doc and Vasquez are trapped with them. There are undead everywhere-- on the back of the trucks, on the front of the trucks, on the side of the trucks... everywhere.

Well At Least We Arent In The Australian Desert

Warren gives the order for everyone to jump from the moving vehicles. After Operation Bite Mark exists, Custer makes his last stand and keeps driving to lure the zombies as far away as possible. We see an explosion in the distance. No one from the caravan survives. Well Sam WAS sick with radiation poisoning anyway so it was only a matter of time before he croaked.

The Good Stuff

OK, correct me if I'm wrong on this. Z Weed is marijuana grown in zombie compost? That's interesting. It seems to make Cassandra more human each time she inhales it. If it's effects can be replicated, this might be the cure everyone has been looking for. Murphy, Cassandra and Wrecking Ball escape in a car and head to Minneapolis to find the weed lab. Operation Bite Mark is now in pursuit of Murphy yet AGAIN. And they're farther away from California than ever.

Grade: 3 1/2 (out of 5 Monsters). The show was not as good as previous episodes since it was basically one long car chase. No worries though. We just came off two strong episodes. I'm committed to "Z Nation" for the long haul... or until the zombies attack for real.
