I unfortunately dont get that channel but was able to see the show while visiting family. After viewing the first episode, I like the 30 minutes/one family format better than the one hour/3 family setup of "Doomsday Preppers".
"America Unplugged" is hosted by Cade Courtley (a Navy seal) and author of “A Navy SEAL’s Secrets to Surviving Any Disaster". There are 8 episodes total in the series, each focusing on how people are living off the grid and preparing for potential disasters.
The first episode focuses on a family in Pickens South Carolina-- Scott Hunt (a robotics engineer) and his wife Lori (a pharmacist). They seem like down to earth people who are level headed (and not loons). I did not know that Scott was behind "Practical Preppers". They know their stuff! With a flip of a lever they can go "off the grid" and switch to a wood burning furnace or hydraulic energy. They can also use their deisel or wood powered vehicles.
Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). If you like survival/prepper shows, "America Unplugged" is definitely worth a shot. Learn new skills or brush up on old ones. It's not IF the next disaster occurs but WHEN it occurs. Mental Note: I'm on the lookout for a hand pump for the well. So far I havent found anything cheap.
