Penny Dreadful Episode 6 Recap: What Death Can Join Together

After Vanessa's flashback episode, "What Death Can Join Together" finds the gang all back to their usual tasks.

Brona and Ethan make up after their fight. We learn nothing further about Ethan and Dorian's previous tryst. Not sure what that was about. At any rate, Brona's condition is worsening. What will Ethan do to save her? Can she be saved? I thought she might end up as the Bride of Frankenstein.

Vanessa and Malcolm are bickering and still trying to find Mina. Vanessa consults the cards. Something terrible is going to happen on a ship. Ethan, Sembene and Malcolm find a plague ship and board it. And by "plague ship" they really mean "vampire ship". Malcolm does not tell Vanessa where they are going. They have "trust" issues.

Caliban is interested in an actress. He gives her a book but she rebukes him Will she end up being his mate? I would feel sorry for Caliban if only he would stop killing people. Speaking of killing, Caliban offs Van Helsing as revenge for Victor stalling on finding him a woman. Before his untimely death, the professor passes on what he knows about vampires to Victor (but warns him not to tell Malcolm). And the Penny Dreadful publications (specifically "Varney The Vampire" are referenced for the first time.

Dorian and Vanessa have some sexy times that involves knives and drinking blood. Unfortunately Vanessa's demon crashes their party. She becomes frightened and scurries home. Malcolm tries to come clean to her about his late night adventure but she is levitating. Uh oh. Here we go again. I assume it's the same demon but do we know that for sure?

Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). Not my most favorite but it follows a really great episode.There are only two left so I'm sure it will be full steam ahead till the end of the season.
