Salem Episode 7 Recap: Daddy Mather Arrives And John And Mary Have Imaginery Sexy Times

Yeah, I'm Only Here To Locate The Malum... Just So We're Clear On My Motives.

Mary spends much of "Our Own Private America" trying to locate the malum. She uses her powers to visit John during several dreams. We all know it's just a ruse to have sex with him. Hey, nothing wrong with that. Tituba warns Mary that if she keeps visiting John's dreams, she may become trapped there. At one point Anne also appears in a dream (so now its a threesome). Next Mary is in the woods being chased by someone. Mary finally snaps back into the real world. Tituba is relieved despite the fact that she previously told Mary this would happen. Mary finally learns that the malum is buried in Giles Corey's grave. Remember him? Tituba and Mercy dig it up.

Later John goes to see Mary. They have another passionate scene. John wants to get back together but Mary forces him to leave saying she got what she needed from him. Oh snap. When are you two love birds going to be honest with each other? Also did I mention John visits the brothel and kisses Anne passionately in this episode? Dude, do you have to hog ALL the women in town?

Meanwhile Mrs Hale and Anne have a heart to heart about the Magistrate. Just when I think she's going to tell Anne that he's a witch, she instead says he's a spy (but wont say for which country). To Anne's credit, she doesnt buy a word of the story. And over at the brothel Mr Hale receives a "back message" (since there was no texting in Puritan New England). Increase Mather is on his way to town.

After a long voyage, Increase Mather arrives. He would have gotten there sooner but the witch's were keeping him down. Poor Cotton is less than happy to see him. It seems Increase (what kind of name is that?) strikes fear into everyone he encounters.

Mercy is exercising her new found power over the Salem girls (by making them see scary faces of their future husbands). One of the girls is betrothed to Joe Baker. They are "bundled". This apparently means that they sleep in the same bed but there's no funny business.

The girl (I think her name is Dolly) sees boils all over Joe's face. She runs away screaming. Mercy is supposed to scare Dolly's mom but instead slits her throat. Her body is carried through the street. A mob forms. They want the Barkers to burn. Cotton is the voice of reason. They must stand trial first.

Later that night Cotton smells smoke and learns the Barker family has been burned at the stake. Daddy Increase is at it again. Better hide the hookers (especially Glorianna). Increase insults Cotton's "tools of reason". Next he heads over to Mary's house. He lets himself into her bedroom and then insults the picture above her fireplace by calling it "inappropriate". Mary tries to sweet talk him. It seems to be working. Increase responds by saying how lucky his friend George is. Sure he pretends to be all religious but deep down inside Increase is just your run of the mill perv.

In related news, Todd the Toad did not make an appearance this week. We'll see him next week though.

Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). I would have given this episode a 3 1/2 but extra points for sexy times. And now that Increase has arrived, you can bet all hell is going to break loose.
