Penny Dreadful Episode 7 Recap: Please Give Ms Eva Green ALL The Awards Immediately

Holy shit! I am exhausted after watching "Possession". Vanessa and her demon (Amunet) are at it again but this time it is MUCH worse (and it was pretty bad before). If Eva Green doesnt win during awards season, there is no justice in the world.

To catch you up to speed, last week Vanessa and Dorian were on the verge of consummating their relationship. There was a good amount of foreplay involving knives. Just then, Vanessa hears a demon's voice and becomes frightened. She scurries home but starts levitating in the parlor. Uh oh. Bad sign. Vanessa destroys half the house before Sembene knocks her out cold. Excellent idea. I vote you keep slugging her each time she wakes up. Eventually the demon will become bored and leave.

The gang rallies around Vanessa. Her "condition" brings them closer together but familiarity also breeds contempt. We learn that Victor is a morphine addiction as well as a virgin. Each time Victor looks out the window, he sees Caliban staring in from across the street. He wants a girlfriend and STAT! At least Caliban didnt kill anyone this week.

Sir Murray discusses his obsession with Africa and how he abandoned his son. We learn from Vanessa's demon that Malcolm also made his Peter have sex with native women. Malcolm is so selfish he didnt even fulfill Peter's dying wish and instead named the mountain he discovered after himself. What a bad daddy!

The demon also corners Ethan about his tryst with Dorian (and announces that Ethan was the bottom). Amunet tells Ethan that Brona had sex with Dorian as well. So who hasnt Dorian had sex with? Speaking of sex, the demon lists the various women that Sir Murray had sex with while murdering his way through Africa. Apparently everyone on this show gets lots of action except Victor and Caliban. I'm not sure about Sembene.

And just when I thought Vanessa and Ethan were having a nice heart to heart chat, he turns out not to be Mr Chandler at all... It is the demon (Amun Ra). Last time he manifested as Malcolm. This time he's Ethan. Vanessa says she will not join him willingly but it doesnt look like she has much more fight left. He wants her to be his bride so they can rule over the world and destroy it.
We learn that Malcolm doesnt really care about Vanessa at all. He just using her to contact Mina. Ethan insists they call for a priest to either perform last rites or an exorcism. Ethan tells Sir Murray that if anything happens to Vanessa he'll rip Malcolm's throat out. Another hint that that Mr Chandler is indeed a werewolf.

The priest arrives but cannot perform an exorcism. Apparently ya have to get the Vatican's permission first. Lots of paperwork is involved. After seeing Vanessa's condition, he tries to leave but is blocked by the others. What a lightweight. The priest (sorry I dont know his name) then sits on Vanessa's bed. Oh REALLY BAD idea. Did you not see "The Exorcist"? Stay as far away from the demon as possible.

Vanessa/Amunet leaps up and bites off the guy's ear (or cheek) off and spits it out. Eewwwww. Then she mind-locks all the doors. She scurries across the ceiling. Uh oh. Ceiling walking is a very bad sign. Vanessa regains control of herself and pleads with Ethan to kill her. He puts the gun to her chest but cant pull the trigger. And for a moment I was seriously worried that they would kill off the main character. Would I watch this show without Vanessa? Probably not.

Ethan next takes the medallion that Brona gave him and recites some stuff in Latin. Remember the medallion is St Jude (patron saint of lost causes). And this seems like a lost cause if there ever was one. Vanessa collapses to the floor. Ethan puts her in bed and immediately leaves. Hmmm what is really up with the mysterious Mr Chandler? If he could do that, why did they need a priest in the first place?

Vanessa awakens and hear more voices. Oh no here we go again! But this time she tells Malcolm that she knows where Mina is. So maybe Amunet is gone for now but she is still clairvoyant? I have no idea. I just roll with the flow on this show.

In other news, Dorian is MIA this week except for flashbacks about his/Vanessa's and his/Ethan's sexy times. Brona is missing except for her flashbacks with Ethan.

And next week is the season finale. Oh no! This show cant end this soon! We seriously need more episodes. What demon do I have to summon to make that happen?
