I Really Like Philip And Amy As A Couple
The last two episodes of "In The Flesh" were action packed. Here's the highlights going into next week's season finale.
Maxine is intent on closing the undead brothel (AKA the "rotter knocking shop"). Jem and Gary still have a thing. Kieren reveals to Simon that he was the first to rise. Uh, bad idea.
In episode 5 we see more of Simon's back story. The flashbacks to the Norfolk Treatment Center were pretty harrowing. Halpern and Weston did some freaky experiments on him (but its all in the name of science so that's OK).
It turns out that for all bravado, Simon is just as lost as everyone else. We briefly see his father. ISimon killed his mother while rabid. His father cant bear to look at him and kicks him out of the house. Simon wanders the streets until he finds the Undead Prophet's crew.
Simon is told by the prophet (via a DVD, who has those anymore?) that he must kill Kieren on the 12th hour on the 12th day in the 12th month in order to jumpstart the second Rising. But it seems Simon has genuine feelings for Kieren so will he actually proceed with the plan? Gary later gets ahold of the DVD and shows it to Maxine. They had better act quickly.
Meanwhile Kieren is accused of letting some rabids out. He is of course innocent. He may be sent back to Norfolk. And based on Simon's prior experience, it is no place you'd want to be. I have always loved Steve and Sue Walker but why arent they standing up for Kieren? Kieren is disheartened and goes to Simon's house. Simon is not there so Kieren snoops around. Probably not a good idea. He finds Blue Oblivion (which Kieren pockets for later use). Again probably not a good idea.
I'm glad Amy and Phillip get more air time. They play Crazy Golf and are happy. She later tells him that she is building up an immunity to Neurotriptyline. Amy asks Phillip to kill her (before she permanently turns into a zombie). What a powerful scene. I was seriously worried for a few minutes that Amy was a goner. It seems like she's becoming more human instead of a rabid. What does it all mean? Is she Human 2.0? Also do you think she's truly the First Risen?
In a separate scene, Maxine gets closer to isolating patient zero. At the end of the episode she is staring at her board of names with landlady Sandra (who witnessed the Rising) but we dont know whose name they circled. And we still dont know Maxine's motivations.
One of the biggest mysteries remaining is the identity of the Undead Prophet. Is he even undead? We have never seen his face. Could it be Weston or Halpern? And we still dont know how the uprising occurred. Did those guys start it?
Favorite Quotes:
"Sign a confession or be sent to the treatment center"- the town council to Kieren.
Amy: "Crazy golf is a game of skill. Wouldn't be an Olympic sport if it wasn't. Phillip says it's not in the Olympics. Phillip: "Perhaps if the crazy golf people got together and came up with a more serious-sounding name like 'elaborate obstacle golf' then then the Olympic body might make it a proper sport."
Grade: 4 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). Two great episodes. There is only one left in season 2. Will it end with a cliff hanger? PLEASE dont kill Amy!
TV: Heavy On Sci Fi, Horror & Adventure; Light On Reality
