Defiance Season 2 Episodes 1 Thru 2 Recaps: Lets Just Call This The Stahma Show From Here On Out (Season Premiere)

Christie's First Time In The Ceremonial Bath Was A Teeny Little Uncomfortable After Stahma Put Her Boobage In Her Face

Here's where we find our favorite characters some nine months after the season one finale:

Nolan is in search of Irisa. When we last saw her she possessed by the god Irzu and all sorts of craziness was going on.
Kenya is also MIA. But we know Stahma killed her last season...or did she?
Amanda has taken over Kenya's job at the NeedWant (since she's no longer mayor). She also has developed a drug habit.
The new Earth Republic (e-rep) mayor is Niles Pottinger. There are lots of e-rep soldiers around town including a new character--- Captain Berlin Rainer. So far she seems to be a great addition. And that's quite a stylish police uniform. Its a little too close to the SS for my comfort though.
Datak and Doc Yewll are in prison in nearby Camp Reverie. As you will recall last season Datak murdered Colonel Marsh and Yewll was trying to cut up Irisa.
Stahma is secretly running the drug business while letting her son Alak think he's the one in charge. It's interesting to note that Alak recognizes what his mother is up to when he says "what ear did you have to whisper in... " (to get Skeever beaten). So he's well aware that she is not the passive wife that she portrays herself to be.
Rafe is now a worker in the mines.

In episode 1, Yewll and Datak unite to escape from prison. Stahma visits Datak and manages to "service" him through the bars, even though the guards keep yelling "no touching". Datak later wants Yewll to finish the deed but she refused. That Yewll is hilarious. She definitely needs more air time. And you can bet that Stahma hasnt filed any appeals to get Datak out of jail. Why should she? She's doing just fine on her own.

This week Datak and Yewll are working with a religious nut who is plotting to kill Niles. Datak furnishes the weapon. However when he tries to stab Niles, Datak stops him and kills him instead. Niles sees straight through Datak's plan. No, he's not that grateful that Datak saved his life (since he planned to kill him in the first place).

Nolan finally finds Irisa in Angel arc. She says they must return to Defiance at once. She does not mention that she's having visions of killing people (including Nolan). Upon their return Irisa promptly gets thrown in a cell for storming the stasis net. She tries to make up with Tommy but he says he's moved on. We later see him kissing the e-rep soldier Berlin. Irisa is not happy. Berlin and Nolan work together to find out who is setting off shrill bombs. Shrill are apparently parasites that live in cold dark places like the mines.

The culprits are a human named Bradley and a Castithan named Skeever. Stahma previously had Skeever beaten for crossing them. The second bomb is set under Stahma's car. Nolan managed to defuse it with one second to go. That was close. Nolan is now considered a hero in town. He was on everyone's hit list when he shot that Castithan teenager last year. Nolan wins Irisa's release from prison. She runs off telling him she's going to see Tommy (who he approves of).

Stahma sends Alak to murder Skeever as payback for trying to blow her up. Alak finally succeeds but he's obviously not a born killer. I think he's too soft for the Tarr family. Amanda thanks Nolan for rescuing the town by having sexy times with him. Little do they know that Niles has a secret camera in Amanda's room and is watching the whole thing. Yep the guy's a perv.

And speaking of Nolan, what is he really up to? He drops drugs in front of Amanda as a way of letting her know he has a stash. He's secretly spying on her. He visits the prison and wants to know what's in Yewll's safe. When she refuses to answer, he chops off her finger. Oh no! Will it grow back? I'm not how that works with Indogenes. He tells Stahma that he's taking over the drug (Adreno) business. That man is into everything in town.

As always my favorite scenes are those involving Stahma. How bout a spinoff with just her manipulating everyone in town? Her every gesture is perfect. The look of disgust on her face while her driver Sensoth is trying to start the car was wonderful. Cut him some slack! He cant help it if he has giant fingers and the car keys are so small.

"Do you want me to check you for lumps... you're good"- Yewll to Datak when he wants her to finish what Stahma started.
"Mom, do you have to sit so close"- Alak to his mother in the bath when her boobs too close to Christie. Where can I sign up for a mother-in-law like that???
"You children are so particular about your personal space"- Stahma's response to Alak.
"I've done terrible things."- Irisa to Tommy
"He's gaga for god"- Doc Yewll about the religious fanatic in jail
"I've heard of Berlin. I've always wanted to visit."- Nolan. Haaa good one.
Berlin calls Nolan a "happy cowboy" and then says "I bet you watched 'Star Wars' a hundred times... driving around in your busted ass roller with your hot Chewbacca". Too funny and spot on.

Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). I know some had mentioned that episode 1 "The Opposite of Hallelujah" was a little slow but the characters needed to be reestablished. I thought episode 2 "My Secret Life" was a lot of fun. As always I'm like more air time for Stahma. I'm also looking forward to learning more about Berlin.
