True Blood Episode 9 Recap: Life Matters If Youre Dead

The latest episode of "True Blood" had it all. There were touching moments (Terry's funeral) and laugh out loud moments (before Steve Newlin fried to a crisp, he looked up at Sarah and said "I love you.. Jason Stackhouse!"). You know a show is good when you're home alone laughing hysterically.
It had been rumored that one TB regular would die this season. Is it Terry or are they going to kill off someone else? I at first thought it was Terry but since they spent SO much time on the funeral, I'm thinking a little misdirection may be involved. They also hinted at Bilith (unfortunately still kicking) and Jason (when he was threatening Sarah) and Eric (when Pam said "don't leave me" as he rocketed off to wherever). I guess we'll find out next week.

Anyway, back to "Life Matters". It was good to see all the Bon Temps folk (the non-fanged variety) at Terry's funeral. There was Tara's mom and the reverend. There was Maxine Fortenberry. She mentioned that Hoyt was doing well and had a girlfriend (who is uglier than sin).

Eric drank Warlow's blood so he could walk in the daylight. He killed all the guards by ripping them limp from limb. He attacked Dr Overlook and left him in the floor to bleed to death (sans genitalia). He then released all the vampires from prison except for Pam, Tara, Jessica, Violet, Willa, James and Steve Newlin because they were locked in the sun room. Sarah Newlin climbed to the top of the tower (reciting the 23rd Psalm all the way) so she could open the roof and kill everyone. Bilith sacrificed himself so the others could feed off him and live. Now they can all walk during the daylight. Lilith's three bloody ladies came for Bill but he didn't want to die. James and Jessica gave him their blood so he survived. All the vampires dancing around in the sun was a bit much. I get that you're drunk on vampire/fairy blood but get a grip. I feared they would break into song any minute. That's where I draw the line... No singing vampires.

What's next:
  • Jason, why did you let Sarah leave? She's just going to keep trying to kill everyone.
  • Is Eric really gone for good?
  • What will happen in next week's season finale? This episode had the feel of a finale so not sure what they'll be up to next week.

Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). One of the best episodes to date! I'll miss you Steve Newlin. If only you could stay and Bilith die instead.
