Doomsday Preppers Episode 4-5 Recaps: Total Destruction and Survival Is An Ugly Beast

Episode 4 "Total Destruction":

A devastating EF-5 tornado, like the one that struck Oklahoma in May of this year, can throw buildings into the air and hurt hundreds of people. In Tennessee, Tracy is preparing for just that. Tracy has spent six years prepping his farm for a super tornado, but if it does hit, he doesn't plan on hunkering down — he plans on gathering his family and making a getaway in his mobile safe room (from NatGeo website). Meanwhile in Tampa, Dan and his family are preparing for a mega lightening storm.

For some reason I found this episode to be slower paced than normal. Maybe it's just me. The gasifier powered bus (which uses wood as fuel) is a cool idea but how are you going to drive when debris is strewn everywhere (including all over the roads)? Sure you can push a few cars away with the cow catcher but ya cant do that through 50 miles of debris.

That Dan is a real McGyver. He has all sort of gadgets built. There is a solar powered device which he can cook and purify water with. He also melted zinc and turned it into a knife. Dan appears to be very handy to have around in an emergency.

Episode 5 "Survival Is An Ugly Beast":

To protect his family from Doomsday marauders, Rob is devising the ultimate booby-trap system. He's securing his Texas property's perimeter with an elaborate system of alarms, traps and defense mechanisms. In Tenn., Greg is preparing for a financial catastrophe by building an invisible tree house where he hopes to be safe from looters. If the build goes as planned, his family will have a tree house 12 feet into the forest canopy, with mirrored paneling and a stockpile of food, water and ammo (from NatGeo website).

Rob is seriously planned on blowing someone/something up. It was cool watching him come up with plans of attack though. He kinda looks like a bull. If I saw him coming, I think I'd go the other way.

While I admire Greg's efforts, I don't think a tree house is a good bug out shelter. Yes they have reflective mirrors but it doesn't make you invisible. I think it makes you a sitting duck. And why build a treehouse when you know your wife is deathly afraid of heights? And all an attacker has to do is either wait them out or set their tree on fire. Go underground people! If they cant see ya, they can't try to steal your stuff.
