Don't Piss Off Zombie Nick!
Episode 1 "The Ungrateful Dead"
As you recall from the end of season 2, Nick was turned into a zombie. Monroe, Juliette and Rosalee were narrowly able to escape. Now Zombie Nick is in a coffin and about to go on a long plane ride to Austria. The crew tries to stop the plane but there are more zombies everywhere-- abort mission! The plane leaves. Zombie Nick apparently did not like his inflight movie and starts banging on his coffin. The dummy Baron opens it and Nick proceeds to crash the plane. Zombie Nick is now wondering around in the woods.
Meanwhile Rosalee is working on a zombie inhalant cure. Getting the zombies to put that up their noses is going to be a challenge (provided they all have noses).
There is something about Stefania pulling out Frau Pech's heart and putting in in a box. She then tells Adalind that she has to bury the heart and the body parts in a hole if she wants to get her powers back. Then there's a field of flowers that all die and some such other wierdness.
And Zombie Nick is outside a house. What will he do next? Stop in for tea?
Episode 2 "PTZD"
I love the title "PTZD" which stands for Post Traumatic Zombie Disorder! After chasing a family around and killing a guy, Zombie Nick is cured (sorta). And Baron von Wesen is dead. Captain Renard tries to cover up Nick's shenanigans.
Is Eric Renard (half brother of Sean) dead? He is over on Fox's "Sleepy Hollow" now so not sure if he'll be back? James Frain is a great actor. He was Thomas Cromwell in "The Tudors", Lord Warwick in "The White Queen" and Franklin (the creepy vampire who stalked Tara) in "True Blood".
I'm bored with the Adalind storyline.
Episode 4 "A Dish Best Served Cold"
Juliette persuades Nick to go see a doctor after his zombification. They run some endurance tests and no matter what they do to him, Nick's pulse and respiration never increase.
Monroe and Rosalee go out to dinner at a fancy restaurant named "Raven and Rose". Monroe asks her to move him. She says "yes". Yeah!
The next scene is a guy running through the woods. He is having intestinal issues. He turns into a Blutbad and climbs a tree. Then something busts out of his body (but we don't know what). I just hope it's not an alien. Where is Sigourney Weaver when ya need her?
The Portland PD crew (Hank, Nick, etc) find him in the tree the next morning. And then they find another body in the same condition. Hmmm. The common denominator is that they all ate at the same restaurant.
A the restaurant they find a mean chef who is a Bauerschwein. Bauerschwein are pig like creatures that are enemies of Blutbaden. I have the sneaky suspicious that Chef Gordon Ramsey might be a Bauerschwein. Juliette says she think they died from "bloat' which she has seen in her veterinary practice.
Rosalee determines that the actual cause is a Cordyceps fungoid, typically found in the Black Forest in Germany. In layman's terms, that a poisonous mushroom. If it is ingested by Blutbaden... well you saw what happened. If there anything Rosalee doesn't know or can't look up? Luckily Monroe did not eat the mushroom (but only because Rosalee stopped him in the restaurant). That's a fun word "fungoid". I think I'm going to try to use that more often in my everyday conversations.
A bunch of Blutbaden go to attack the chef. Nick tries to get him to confess but he will not. Then Monroe gets all Blutbaden and plans to bounce on him. Nick tells him to stay back but he doesn't and Nick shoots him. Oh dear, I didn't think that would happen. But it turns out it was all a plan. Monroe was just playing dead. The pig confesses and off his goes to jail.
Meanwhile a war has broken out among the royal families after Eric's death. And something about Adalind. Did I mention I find her storyline boring?
Grade: 3 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). A good start to the new season. I'm interested to see how Nick deals with him becoming pretty much what he is hunting (individuals who turn into something they cant control and then do things that they may/may not regret later).
