I tried to be nice... for about 5 seconds
Well that didn't take long. Just when we thought we would see a kindler, gentler Governor this episode (entitled "Dead Weight") shows him reverting right back to his crazy old self.
At the beginning of the episode the Gov (he's going by "Brian" now, don't call him Philip) and Megan are in the zombie pit. Martinez helps them out and takes them back to the camp. He says he would not have rescued Brian without Megan but can see that the family has changed him.
"One Eye Bri" and the guys go on a supply run. They see some decapitated bodies with signs that say liar, rapist and murderer. They then run into the murderer's zombie wife and daughter. On the return trip they discover someone attacked a nearby group and took all their supplies. Desperate times call for desperate measures.
Meanwhile back at the RV camp, Tara is trying to impress Alisha with her knowledge of firearms. That was the stupidest come on line ever... but whatever works for ya! Tara tries to get the zombie off of Megan by pulling his foot... off. Tara, you should never be without a weapon during the zombie apocalypse. I hope she wisens up soon or I fear she'll be dead.
Later Martinez and Brian climb on top of an RV to hit some golf balls. Martinez says he might be persuaded to share power with Brian. Brian, in return for saving his life, bashes him in the head with a golf club and then feeds him to the zombies. Talk about harsh! The next day the others find Martinez and mistakenly think he got drunk and fell in the pit.
Next Brian kills Pete. He then tells his brother Mitch at gunpoint that he can either join him or else.
And the final scene shows Brian outside the prison with a gun pointed at Michonne's head. Next week is the long awaited showdown between the Gov and Team Prison.
Observations and quotes:
- What's up with Bri keeping Zombie Pete shackled in the pond? Is this the beginning of a new zombie collection (remember his fish tank full of heads back at Woodbury)?
- We learn that Brian and his brother had an abusive father. Well that explains a lot.
- And Megan is almost attacked by a zombie AGAIN! Can that girl never stay out of trouble?
- The Gov now has a big tank so watch out prison folk. That may be coming through the front gate next week.
- That mud pit full of zombies was a freaky effect.
- "People believe what they want to believe. Everyone loves a hero."- Brian
- “Now that you’re here maybe we can share the crown a little.”- Martinez to Brian before he gets whacked in the head by a golf club.
- "You can’t think forever. Sooner or later, you gotta make a move.”- Brian
Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). We have one more episode to go Sunday and then we have to wait till February when there will be 8 new episodes of TWD.
