Episode Synopsis from tvequals.com: The Americans (FX) Episode 8 “Mutually Assured Destruction” – Philip and Elizabeth must stop an assassin from taking out key US scientists, while Stan and the FBI hunt the same man. Grannie shocks Elizabeth with the truth of what happened between Philip and Irina in New York.
The premise of this episode seems crazier than usual. KGB hires hit man to kill 14 scientists. Then changes their mind but can't communicate with him to tell him to stop. Then they send other KGB agents to stop him but don't tell them anything about him (not his name, not what he looks like, not where he was last seen, etc). OK... whatever, I still like the show.
By using their stellar spy skills Liz and Lip find the German assassin and tell him to desist. Apparently he doesn't want to and has the room set to blow. They are able to blow him up first though. Uhhh how many highly trained assassins does the KGB have that it's just ok to blow them up? I imagine they spent a lot of money on him. Oops sorry our bad. Anyway he had one more surprise in store. He snuck some explosives into a radio that blows up a scientist and some FBI guys. Now the Americans are really pissed.
Other thoughts:
Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). I have enjoyed every episode thus far. Bonus points for the shotgun touting little girl.

Other thoughts:
- Are poor Liz and Lip ever going to get together for at least one whole episode? This push/pull is driving me crazy. And Grammy was being her usual evil self by telling Elizabeth that Phillip cheated on her. "If you start to think of your marriage as real it doesn’t work"- Claudia to Elizabeth after she told her about Irina. Don't trust anything that woman says!!!
- That little girl with the shotgun was pretty menacing (if she is indeed a little girl). She should be on every week!
- I don't want to sound like a perv but I enjoyed the nudity in this episode. More please.
- Beeman and Nadia are still going strong (and his family notices he's changed).
- Phillip is still romancing Martha to find out what the FBI is up to. Stan's partner Amador is tailing her at the end of the episode. He's going to be a problem.
- Phillip and Elizabeth may divorce but still work together as spies. I'm interested to see how that goes.
