Disclaimer: Much on LG doesnt make sense. If you just roll with it, the show is much more enjoyable.
In this episode our Bo, assisted by Stella, is still preparing for the Dawning. She's not doing very well. A strange machine shows up that Trick must operate to assist her. Bo shakes hands with a Spriggan and now owes him a favor. She and Tasmin go on a quest.
Per the Lost Girl wiki, Spriggans are from Cornish mythology and have the ability to make binding deals. If one shakes hands with a Spriggan, intentional or not, one must complete a favor for the spriggan. If one attempts to leave a deal made with a Spriggan, he literally reappears in front of them.
Bo is supposed to go to an awards ceremony with Lauren because she won some scientist award for free radicals. Bo keeps calling Lauren to say she's almost there. Lauren doesn't believe her and neither do we. Didn't Lauren look smashing in that green dress? I think so too.
Anyway Bo, Tamsin, and the Spriggan must free a Squonk. Squonks are annoying and cry a lot. Per wikipedia, the Squonk is a legendary creature reputed to live in the Hemlock forests of northern Pennsylvania. The legend holds that the creature's skin is ill-fitting, and covered with warts and other blemishes and so it hides from plain sight and spends much of its time weeping. Our Squonk is a teenage girl. That makes her twice as annoying as a regular Squonk.
Bo then has a gun fight with what turns out to be two holograms. Tasmin kisses Bo for winning the fight. When they all get back to the Dal, it turns out that Sp and Sq were really part of the invite to the Dawning.
Bo and Tamsin go to Laurens but she has already left with a scientist dude. Please, please, please do not make Lauren hook up with that scientist or I swear Ill go all dark fae on someone!!!
In the last scene Tasmin is outside and sees "The Wanderer" card on the ground. We've seen it previously in this episode. She says "No, please tell me she is not the one" as tarot cards rain down upon her. Hmmm what does it all mean? Did a truck delivering tarot cards overturn on the highway? Does it mean she has to kill Bo? Does it mean Bo is her soul mate? Your guess is as good as mine. I looked up what the Wanderer /Fool card means in Tarot in hopes of finding a clue: http://astro-centr.net/divination.html?przd=tarot&nr=1a
The message of the Fool is to let go and take a risk! Toss the rule book out the window! However crazy your plan may be, you are protected from most calamities and are about to start an exciting journey that may be mental, physical, spiritual or all three.
Wikipedia:
Episode 8 "Fae-ge Against The Machine"
Bo accidentally activates a game that is part of her tests for The Dawning. Bo and Tamsin are forced into helping a Spriggan to find a missing Fae. As Bo is involved in that search, Trick is forced to play the game for Bo. Each choice Trick makes affects Bo at some point in her search. Bo and Tamsin go to Brazenwood, a place where outlaw Fae live and find the missing Fae who is a Squonk and free her. Lauren wins an award for her work and wants Bo to go with her, instead going out with a fellow scientist when Bo cannot do so. Bo passes her test and receives an invitation to attend The Dawning and Tamsin has a disturbing revelation about Bo.
Grade: 3 Monsters (out of 5). I was kinda bored till the end when I perked right back up ;)
