What did you think of the season finale of "Bates Motel"? Here's the highlights:
- When we last saw the lovely residents of White Pine Bay, the man in number 9 (Abernathy) had just given Norma an ultimatum-- either bring him the $150,000 that Shelby stole from him by midnight or everyone dies.
- Norman overhears his teacher arguing over the phone with her ex boyfriend. She asks him to keep what he hear a secret. They share a long far too intimate hug.
- Norma goes to see the therapist but this time she's alone. She asks how to handle stress. Yes, someone threatening to kill your family would be stressful. Norma, if you don't tell the therapist the truth, he cant help you.
- Dylan shows Norma how to use a gun. Does anyone else see a problem with Norma packin'?
- Norman and Emma go to the prom. Before Emma arrives Norma shares with Norman that she was molested by her brother when she was a child. They hug. Why would ya tell your child this right before he leaves for the prom? Maybe because she thought Abernathy would kill her before she saw Norman again? Or maybe Norma is just crazy.
- At the prom, Norman gets punched in the head by an ex of Bradley's. And did I mention I really don't like Bradley? She will be putting the moves on Dylan next. And poor Emma. She has it bad for Norman. Trust me sister. You do not want to get too close to him.
- Norma tries to get help from Sheriff Eyeliner (Romero). He says "No harm is going to come to you or your sons. You have my word.” Later all 3 end up on the pier. Romero kills Abernathy and then throws the bag of money in the water. Uh hello. Norma could use that to move to Alaska and get out of this crazy ass town. So is Romero a good guy or bad guy? I'm still not sure.
- Norman's teacher Ms Watson saw him walking home after the prom. She sees he's injured and takes him home to clean up. She goes in the other room to change clothes but of course leaves the door open (definitely not a good idea around Norman). He can see her in the mirror. He has another hallucination of Norma telling him "you know what you have to do". Next we see Norman running home in the rain. Flashback to poor Ms. Watson. Did Norman kill her or did her boyfriend? Well have to wait till season 2 to find out. And what happened to the Asian girl that ran into the woods episodes ago with Shelby chasing her. Did she escape? I hope.
- Favorite quote: "What happened to the cute but nutty lady who runs the motel? You kill her?” -Abernathy to Romero.
Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). I really enjoyed the season 1. Freddie Highmore and Vera Farmiga did a great job of making these characters multi faceted and relatable (which ain't easy given the subject matter).
