The first season of "The Americans" comes to a close with some major cliffhangers. What we know:
- Lip and Liz are supposed to meet with the American Colonel but everyone suspects its a setup.
- Grannie has been reassigned due to the Jenning's complaint against her but will finish out this gig. Remember Director Patterson (the guy responsible for Zhukov's death) that Liz and Lip let escape two weeks ago? Well he came to a nasty end thanks to Grannie. As he was paralyzed and bleeding to death, she showed him a picture of the Zhukov and talked about their relationship. Looks like she was telling the truth to Elizabeth after all.
- Speaking of Elizabeth, the scenes between those two are the best in the show. Grannie says the agency is “in danger of losing you and whether you see it or not I’m right.” Liz replies with "I’m surprised they gave you this job when you have no understanding of people at all". You never know when those two are going to try to kill each other. PLEASE bring back Margo in season 2. She is my absolutely favorite actress!
- Nina is told to turn Stan into a double agent. Not sure if that's going to work. Yes i am sure...it will NOT work. And how long before Stan finds out what she's really up to? And Mrs Beeman is seriously tired of Stan. It's time for divorce court.
- In the exciting conclusion, Liz is heading to retrieve the tapes from the recorder they have hidden in Casper Weinberg's clock. That is really the setup (and Stan and crew are waiting in hiding). Just then Lip screeches up in the car. The Americans open fire. There's a car chase. They barely get away. Then Phillip finds out Elizabeth has been shot. He takes her to the warehouse where a doctor and Grannie are. Elizabeth is in very shape. In Russian she says two words to him "come home". We're sure he will (at least for a little while).
- Phillip calls Stan and asks if the kids can stay with them. He says Elizabeth's aunt is sick and they have to stay with her. Paige is close to finding out what her parents are really up to. When you're a teenager and don't think your parents are cool, finding out they're also Russian spies would be a major downer. We also find out how the parents are able to keep up their late night spying. Henry says "you know you're not supposed to wake up mom"... Uh cause she's not there.
Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). The last part of the show with the car chase was very suspenseful. I hope they can keep up this momentum in season 2.
