I don't care what the critics say. This is a fun show. Every person in Hemlock Grove is some sort of freak. And the show is doing a great job of making us suspect each one as the possible killer. Is it Peter? Is it Olivia? Is it Roman? Is it Leatha? Is it the creepy Sworn twins? Is it Christine? Is it Norman? In episode 3 we are introduced to Clementine. She is with the US Fish and Wildlife Service. She tells Christine that she has a PhD in "predatorothology" (which I'm pretty sure doesn't exist). She is in Hemlock Grove to try to determine what animal is killing girls (since they just found body number 2). She also had a cryptic conversation with a priest about "Michael". We don't know who that is yet. I am liking Clementine. She is all kinds of strange.
Crazy guy they found in the road in episode 2 (Frances Pullman) says he was previously dead and that "they" are experimenting on where the soul goes. The sheriff gets a call from some higher-ups to transfer Frances to the mental hospital. At the end of episode 3 he tells Norman that he saw "the thing inside your little girl".
Peter has a dream about Roman and the strange "snack eating his own tail" symbol. What exactly is Roman? Peter tells his cousin Destiny that he is a upin. Destiny is an interesting character herself. Peter also thinks a vargulf is killing the girls.
Olivia is putting some sort of drops in her eyes. Looks like she's almost out and is hearing strange whispering. She keeps running into Peter's mother Lynda. She says Olivia must be out of the drugs Nicolae sold her but wont stoop to ask for more.
Norman tells Clementine to look for answers in "the White Tower" (Godfrey Tower). He says to ask for Dr. Johann Pryce. We also find out that Shelly did indeed die so she must be some sort of Frankenstein creature.
Creatures living in Hemlock Grove that we know about thus far:
- Vargulf = werewolf that has gone mad
- Upir = vampire
Fun Frances quotes:
- Today I have seen the dragon... It was you (pointing to Roman).
- The demon dog went for her lady parts first (referring to the murder he witnessed).
- Your wings are wet (not sure if he's referring to Norman or Clementine or someone else).
Grade: 3 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). I liked these two episodes very much but it seems a few people's accents were slipping (such as Roman's, Olivia's and Leatha's). Some of the dialogue was also hinkey. When Peter met Clementine how many times did he say "ma'am"? We get you're polite but could you use another word once in a while?
