And so ends season 2 of "Once Upon A Time". Owen and Tamara are doing their best to destroy magic. They have activated a "trigger" which will wipe out the town of Storeybrooke and kill everyone in it (except for Henry since he was born in the real world). I loved the opening scene with Granny guarding Henry at the playground with her crossbow. They should seriously put Granny in charge. Rumple is trying to off Henry by fraying the rope on his swing (since it was prophesied that the boy will be Rumple's undoing). Luckily the Charmings arrive in time to distract him. And why are those sharp rocks near the swings? Why not dig a snake pit next to the teeter totters while you're at it? Or maybe add a crocodile infested moat under the monkeybars? Whoever is in charge of the Storeybrooke Parks and Rec Department should be fired.
Regina (who seems to have recovered nicely from last week's electroshock therapy) goes to the mine to delay the trigger long enough for everyone else in town to escape (by using the magic beans to open a portal to Fairytale Land). She knows this is a suicide mission. And can the girl FINALLY get some credit for doing something brave and selfless? How bout some positive reinforcement people?
- Emma: "You're not coming with us are you? When you said goodbye to Henry you were really saying goodbye."
- Regina: "You were right you know. Everything that's happening it's my fault. I created this device, it's only fitting that it takes my life."
- Emma: "What am I supposed to tell Henry?" Regina: "Tell him that it wasn't too late for me to do the right thing." And the best quote of the entire series IMHO-- "Everyone looks at me as the Evil Queen including my son. Let me die as Regina."
- Emma: "Regina, I..." And then she stops. Curses!! Oh the feels. I cant take it anymore. For God's sake Emma just say it. Just say "Regina, I... LOVE YOU AND CANT LIVE WITHOUT YOU. I WONT LET YOU DIE BECAUSE I AM THE SAVIOUR AFTER ALL!! PS That stuff I said to Neal was just because I felt bad that he got shot and fell into the portal. I didn't really mean any of it." There don't you feel better after saying that? I know I do.
Anywho... Emma ends up back at the diner with everyone else. She tells them what Regina has planned. Snow says they cant let her die. Emma says she promised Regina that she'd get Henry out alive (but haven't we already established that he will be the only one that lives?). Emma doesn't seem particularly concerned with saving Regina. Uh hello. Didn't you just have a heart to heart in the mine? Oh how you OUAT writers toy with us! Henry says Regina is family and can’t be left behind. He reminds her they saved Regina from the wraith. That gives Snow an idea. Why not send the trigger through the portal and save everyone? They agree and run back to the mine.
They tell Regina their plan but when Emma opens the pouch to get the magic bean it is gone. They have been tricked by Hook AGAIN. Now they're all going to die. Lots of hugging all around (and Henry hugs Regina and calls her mom). Regina says she's not strong enough to hold it much longer. Then Emma has a brilliant idea. She says to Regina, YOU may not be strong enough but maybe "WE" are. She sticks her hands into the stream of energy and together they deactivate the device. More feels on my part. That was a great scene but they should have held hands. The town is saved. Yeah! And this is why dear readers I watch OUAT:
They all start to celebrate but then find out that (cue suspenseful music)... Henry is missing. He was kidnapped by Tamara and Owen. Apparently that was the plan all along? They use a magic bean to open a portal and are gone (till next season). It appears that the gruesome twosome are working for... wait for it... Peter Pan? How does that make any sense?
In other flashbacks, Bae was rescued by Hook when the "shadow" dropped him in the last episode. He likes the boy and soon finds out who his parents are. Bae says Hook killed his mother. Hook says no Rumple did and lied to Bae about it. Bae wants to leave the ship. Hook gives him to the Lost Buys but then we find out that the person they're looking for is not Bae. It is...wait for it... it is Henry? OK here's another thing that doesn't make sense. How does Bae in Victorian England talk to the Lost Buys about a person that wont be born for like a hundred years? I'm confused. And I have a hard time thinking that Peter Pan is the baddie that is behind Owen and Tamara and all this other mayhem.
Interesting internet theory: Some people are saying that Peter Pan needs Henry so he could attach his shadow to him so MAYBE Henry IS Peter Pan and somehow Peter Pan got detached from his body a long time ago and he's been searching for his body (Henry) so he could be normal again? Not sure I buy that but it is interesting.
In other story lines, Rumple gets Lacey to drink a potent created by the Blue Fairy. Sidenote: we havent seen BF for a while since she's got a gig over on "Bates Motel" where she's trying to keep Norman from stuffing things. Anyway, Lacey remembers that she is indeed Belle. They kiss. Rumple says he didn't want to wake her up ust to die (when the trigger was activated) but he needed her since Neal was gone. That was a touching scene. However Neal is not gone (I didn't think he was). We see him washed up on shore (cause apparently when ya go through a portal you always end up in water for some reason). Mulan, Aurora, and Prince Phillip find him.
Rumple looks in his magic globe thingy and finds out that O&T have taken Henry to Neverland. Snow, Charming, Regina, Rumple and Emma all board the Jolly Roger with Hook. They use the last magic bean to open a portal to NeverLand and we're off to season 3. Why is it sometimes you can control where the magic bean take ya and sometimes you cant? I guess we shouldn't think about that too much. How did you like the finale of OUAT?.

Grade: 4 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). I'm glad the town was saved and all but the ending was a bit of a letdown. The part with Regina/ Emma absorbing the magic from the "trigger" should have been the cliffhanger instead. I'm still not sure how I feel about this Peter Pan storyline but cant wait till the show starts again in the fall!.
