Bates Motel Episode 8 Recap: A Boy and his Stuffed Dog

This was a slower paced episode until the very end when it was super creepy. We saw several major character developments which will play out in the future. Here's some highlights:
  • Norman takes up taxidermy to stuff his dog that was run over in the last episode. Does anyone think taxidermy is a good hobby for teenagers with anger control issues? I do not. Best line of the night-- “I don’t know if this is such a good thing for Norman to be doing. He’s already sort of an unusual boy. I don’t want him getting labeled as a freak or anything.” Haaa no truer words have ever been said Norma.
  • Norman tries to talk to Bradley at school. She wants nothing to do with him. Emma tries to defend Norman to the cool girls. Norman finds out that Emma said he slept with Bradley. They have an argument but make up. Emma really does care about Norman. I fear she's going to meet a bad ending.
  • Norman and Norma see a therapist. It consists of the therapist asking Norman questions and his mother answering each one. It reminds me of some therapy sessions I have been in but I digress. The therapist suggests Norma also make an appointment. She is very controlling and that often happens when people have no control in their lives. Uh ya think?

  • The mysterious man in number 9 is up to no good. What is he looking for? Norma should not antagonize him but bad things would be happening regardless of what she did. Norma absolutely cannot catch a break. And she can't count on Sheriff Romero helping her. When she visited him to get help joining the planning commission (they're building a highway around the town) he was very cold.
  • Dead Deputy Shelby makes an appearance proving that nothing (no one) is ever dead and buried around the Bates family.
  • Am I the only one that thinks maybe Mr Decody (Emma's father) stuffed Mrs Decody? He said he took up taxidermy after she "left". We'll see. I don't trust anyone on this show (especially the seemingly nice peop

Grade: 3 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). Only two episodes to go till the end of the season. And I think they were renewed for season 2? I really hope so.
