All My Children is back and better than ever. As anyone who watched it knows, it was canceled by ABC in 2011. Its now back on Hulu for free with four twenty something minute episodes (and one recap episode) per week. If you want to view on a mobile device (iphone, ipad, etc) you'll need to pay a fee to view on HuluPlus or iTunes. Many of the regulars are back: Jesse and Angie, Brooke and Adam, Opal and Dixie, Joe Martin as well as newer cast members. Conspicuously missing is Erica (Susan Lucci). She apparently is in talks to return.
I probably wont review the show each week but will check back from time to time. I started watching it years ago when my grandmother very much enjoyed watching her daily "stories". Some reviewers have said the show it difficult to watch if you're new. I would encourage newbies to watch a few episodes and you'll quickly learn who everyone is. Its really no different than keeping track of everyone on Once Upon A Time or Dowtown Abbey or any other show with a large ensemble of characters.
Episode 1 opens five years in the future. Numerous characters are referencing what happened in the last episode that aired on ABC. For anyone who doesn't know, all the major Pine Valley characters were at a gathering. JR had a gun and was very drunk. Some characters died but we're not sure who all yet.
In other happenings, Adam proposes to Brooke. Miranda and JR are teenagers now. Dixie misses Tad (who apparently is in a coma). Bianca (Erica's daughter) is back although I'm not sure she'll be a season regular. David is released from jail and he's angry. The teenagers are being "teenagers" and are embarrassed by their parents and any other older folks within range. Cassandra (Angie's daughter) was flying in from Paris but was kidnapped.
Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5) for Prospect Park reviving AMC from the dead. I thought the soaps were a thing of the past but I hope they thrive in their new home.
