Hemlock Grove Episodes 7-8 Recaps: Measures of Disorder and Catabasis

Lots of cryptic dialogue, scenes and symbols in Hemlock Grove, PA this week. I'm not sure whats going on. Roman ends up in a coma. Letha and Peter hook up. Olivia needs drugs. Clementine is still sneaking around in her sensible shoes trying to figure it all out. My money is still on the Sheriff Sworn's twins as the killers (just cause that would be super fun).
  • What is Olivia? I thought she was a vampire.  She is having more "spells". She goes to Peter's mom Lynda for drugs for her "condition" (whatever that is). She is eating raw meat. Yuck. Maybe she is the one killing the girls. We also see in a flashback that Olivia had a daughter named Juliette who died as an infant. She did not seem phased in the least by her passing.  And are we ever going to find out anything about Olivia's past o family?
  • Clementine finds more body parts in the Godfrey steel foundry. Apparently it's the rest of Lisa Willoughby.  The mayor says in the public interest they should keep the news from the press.
  • Crazy Frances is found dead with a hypodermic needle in his head. That was no suicide.
  • Roman continues to be his weird self. He's really into the cutting thing. Clementine says something interesting to him when they meet. She say "God doesn't want you to be happy. He wants you to be strong." Roman goes to a girl's house (Ashley) during the storm and rapes her. He then uses his psychic mind control powers to convince her he wasn't there. Not sure what that was about.
  • Norman continues his affair with Olivia. He is planning to leave Marie but finds out she's pregnant.
  • Letha is putting the moves on Peter. You'd think being pregnant would slow her down but I guess not.
  • Clementine breaks into Peters trailer. Her mysterious priest boss shows up. She thinks Olivia might be the killer. He shuts her down though ands says "bring me Peter Rumancek".
  • Roman crashes the White Tower. Not much security in that place is there? He goes in and demands Johann show him Ouroboros (since he keeps having visions of the snake eating his tail symbol). Roman sees it but we do not. Next Roman's in a coma (thanks to Dr Pryce). While in a dream state he meets an attractive girl who is Shelly. She says "Destroy the Dragon before its fire burns you alive." He also sees Clementine who says "the Dragon will eat you alive". He sees his dead father and Norman (who is apparently his real father). Shelley tells him time is running out so get it in gear or else.
  • We learn a new vocabulary word. "Catabasis" is a descent of some type, such as moving downhill or a trip to the underworld. In medicine it is the tapering off of a disease. In psychology it can also mean depression. Accomplishing a task or defeating an adversary may also be involved.
Best quote of the week:

Clementine: Quid pro quo, now, is it Clarice? (Referencing what Hannibal said to Clarice in "Silence of the Lambs")
Sheriff Sworn: I don’t speak Spanish. (That guy's too funny)

Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). I'm still really liking the show but hope we get resolution to these issues by the end of the season. From what I've heard, I'm thinking the answer is no.
