Hemlock Grove Episodes 5-6 Recap: Dragons, Dragons, Everywhere

More craziness ensues in Hemlock Grove, PA. I've said it before but I'll say it again. To hell with the critics. This is a fun, suspenseful, sexy show. I really hope they get a second season. Here's the highlights:

  • We see in a flashback which confirms what we previously suspected-- that Shelly is indeed some sort of Frankenstein monster. Now her visits to Dr. Pryce, her saying that she wants a "hand", and Roman saying he went to Shelly's funeral all make sense.
  • Speaking of Dr.Pryce, Clementine visits him at the Godfrey institute. She's asks if he had any animal or human experiments that escaped and could have killed the two girls. He says "no". Also we find out that Johann has a condition called "hysterical strength" which makes him super strong. He tells her to keep an eye on the Godfrey's since "the bees don't like them either" (meaning nature knows they're something other than human). Dr Pryce confronts Shelly to make sure she is not saying anything about him and the Ouroboros Project. He always calls her" glowworm". She does indeed glow at times. Not sure what's up with that.
  • In other flashbacks we see Clementine locked up in jail somewhere. There is a pregnant woman locked up with her. It turns out she is a werewolf. Clementine successfully kills her before she turns. Another guy comes in and says "welcome to the Order of the Dragon".
  • Peter takes the dead girl's intestines (that he got last week when he opened her grave) to his cousin Destiny. She puts a worm in the jar and lets it sit overnight. Then she eats it (truly disgusting). The spirit of the dead girl temporarily takes over her body. She says a "big dog with yellow eyes" attacked her.
  • Frances Pullman is still crazy and talking about the dragon and how Pryce killed him. He says an H. Vargas can back up his story.
  • Letha is finally showing her pregnancy. She throws up at a party commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Godfrey institute. Olivia and Pryce are trying to get Letha to have her baby there. Why? Probably cause its not human and/or they had a hand in its inception. Pryce says a group called "VOD" is interested in buying out Norman's shares of the Godfrey institute.
  • Olivia is still taking whatever drug she ingests as drops. She passes out while in the library with Shelly. I'm thinking she has to keep taking the drugs in order to stay young.
  • Christina goes on a date. When she kisses the guy she sees the dead girls face and nearly scratches his face off. An ambulance arrives but we're not sure what happened to him or her.
  • What's up with all the dragons? Both Frances and Shelly said "Today I have seen the Dragon" several times. Apparently its a Confucius saying on a poster at the Godfrey Institute that each could have seen. Clementine also joined the Order of the Dragon.

Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5): I'm liking this show more and more with each episode. To hell with the critics.
