Like "House of Cards", "Hemlock Grove" is only on Netflix and all episodes (13 total) were released at the same time. While some critics have panned the series for a poor script, poor acting, and poor cinematic standards, I must say I enjoyed the first two episodes. I found the characters interesting and want to see what happens to them. Please check out "Hemlock Grove" for yourself and let me know what you think.
The show takes place in "Hemlock Grove" Pennsylvania and follows a group of eccentric townspeople. In episode 1 a girl is killed by something other than human. Several people are blaming the newcomer Peter. We're introduced to all of the main characters including:
The Godfrey family- a wealthy family that lives in a mansion:
- Olivia- the mother; she is not human but we don't know what she is
- Roman- the son who has his own secrets (and likes to cut himself while having sex; also he has sex a lot)
- Shelley- the daughter (who is a giant mutant something)
- Norman- Olivia's husband's brother (who is having a off again/ on again relationship with Olivia). He is also a psychiatrist and runs the Godfrey Institute (which seems to be a biotech company).
- Letha- Norma's daughter and Roman's cousin. She is pregnant in episode 2. She says she was visited by an angel who is the father.
- We are briefly introduced to Norman's brother and Olivia's husband in episode 1. He somehow ends up dead. We don't know if its because Olivia shot him, he shot himself, a young Roman shot him, or something else.
The Rumancek family- a gypsy family that includes:
- Lynda- the mother
- Peter- the son (who is a werewolf). Apparently if your index and middle fingers are the same size you're a werewolf, Ooops I have some news I need to share.
- Vince- Lynda's brother who supposedly died of alcohol poisoning.
- Nicolae- Peter's grandfather (in flashbacks)
Other- various high school students and teachers:
- Christina Wendall- we meet her in the first scene when she introduces herself to Peter. She's the one who first suggests he is a werewolf. She is a writer so she's concerned with other people's motivations.
- Brooke Bluebell- she was apparently planning a hookup with a female teacher but instead was eaten by something.
From Wikipedia:
Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). I enjoyed the characters and think the show has real potential.
