What happened on "Snake Salvation" this week? You guessed it. There was lots of handling of snakes and going to church.
Little Cody, who was bitten by a snake last week, was back in the swamps again. Couldn't he take a break for just a little while? It turns out Cody Jr has been bitten four times. He thinks the next one may kill him. This has caused issues with his wife but God must come first, followed by his family.
Pastor Hamblin believes the Devil is in their midst and decides to hold a revival. For those of you that don't know, it's a church service that could go on for hours, days or in some rare cases years. There is lots of dancing, praying, fire holding, serpent handling, speaking in tongues and sweating. Andrew collapses to the floor after being taken over by the Holy Ghost. They had a name for this phenomena but I missed it. Please post below in the comments if you caught it.
Like I've said several times before, I'm not sure why I keep watching SS. I guess I am interested in what would compel people to do something so dangerous (and something out of society's norms). Also their VERY emotional approach to religion is interesting. There is lots of crying, screaming, etc. The world is black and white and the Devil is around every corner trying to drag you to Hell. Contrast this with Catholic and Episcopalian approaches. Faith in God is more of an intellectual exercise than an emotional one.
I'm worried that kids and impressionable adults will watch this show and decide snake handling is OK-- NOT TRUE! Here's an article about a pastor in WV who died as a result: http://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/style/a-west-virginia-pastor-pays-the-price-for-his-faith/2012/05/31/gJQAawRl5U_gallery.html#photo=1
