Being Human Episode 1-2 Recaps: Old Dog, New Tricks And That Time Of The Month (Season Premiere)

"Being Human" just began it's fourth season on SyFy. I may not review the show weekly but have seen several episodes. The US version is based on the British series by the same name. It should not be confused with "Almost Human" which appears on Fox-- see my reviews of that show here: Almost Human

"Being Human" follows Aidan (a vampire) and Josh (a werewolf). In season 1 they move into a house that is occupied by Sally (a ghost). The three friends encounter a number of challenges and adventures together. They are also later joined by Josh's wife Nora (who is also a werewolf).

Episode 1: Old Dog, New Tricks

Nora and Aidan are trying to help Josh (who is now a wolf all the time except for the full moon). And the full moon is when Nora is a wolf so they only have a few minutes together each month. This may be the secret cure for divorces. If you only see each other for 30 minutes a month, there's no time to fight.

Aidan is now dating Kat. At a work party Kat encounters "Diana" (who is really Aidan's wife Suzanna from the 1700's). And Aidan's son is now leading the vampires? I'm confused.

Meanwhile Sally is with Donna getting mani/pedis at a spa in some ethereal plane.  Remember last season they were swallowed up by the earth. There's lots of time for chit chat. Donna says they've both screwed up far too many lives with their powers so they need to chill out in this dimension for a while. Sally finally figures a way out (and ends up hanging in a department store which is built on the spot where Donna was hanged as a witch... I think).

Episode 2: That Time Of The Month

Sally is still bouncing around between dimensions and times so who knows where she'll end up next.

Aidan is not sure what to make of Suzanna. He doesnt know that Bishop turned her into a vampire after she was drowned back in the 1700's. And he definitely doesnt know that afterwards she killed their son to feed on him. She is still racked with guilt over this and cannot forgive herself.

Sally tells Nora and Aidan that she can preform a spell (thanks to Donn'a book of spells) that will restore him to his human self. Wouldnt you think she's be a little shy about doing spells since her plans dont always go as intended? I guess not. Sally needs several things for the spell to work. One of the items is blood but not just any blood. How to put this delicately? It's blood from a woman during that time of the month. There's some uncomfortable dialogue between the three and then Nora supplies what's needed... nuff said. Anyway. in the middle of the spell Sally disappears. So Aiden and Nora pull Josh out of his wolf body. Sally finally materializes again and says it was too early. What choice did they have though? She was MIA. Now Josh is acting strangly and yellow wolfie eyes. Uh oh.

Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). A strong start to the fourth season. I'm interested to hear more about Suzanna and about Sally's new witchy powers (which I'm sure will get her into trouble).
