Final scoring in "The Seven Wonders" competition:
- The contest begins with Zoe, Madison, Queenie and Misty participating. Cordelia and Myrtle are overseeing. FrankenKyle is just hanging around watching.
- If you need a recap, the Seven Wonders are: telekinesis (to control objects with the mind), concilium (to control someone's mind), transmutation (transporting oneself to another location), divination (to see the future), vitalum vitalis (to bring a person back from the dead), descensum (to move between life and the afterlife) and pyrokinesis (to control fire with the mind).
- Each girl passes several tests-- telekinesis, pyrokinesis, concilium, etc.
- During descensum, Misty gets stuck in Hell. Her version of Hell is a high school science class where she has to dissect live frogs (which she then resurrects) over and over and over again. Cordellia tries to revive her but to no avail. Misty turns to dust. I'l miss you Misty. You were my favorite! The other girl's versions of Hell were: Zoe (continually breaking up with Kyle...how boring), Madison (stuck in a live version of "The Sound Of Music" where she wasnt even the lead), Queenie (who went back to the chicken shack and served the same people she saw last time) and Delia (continually rejected and slapped by her mother).
- While practicing transmutation (the witch version of hide and seek), Zoe is impaled on a wrought iron fence. The girls try to revive her (vitalum vitalis). Queenie fails. Madison refused to try since she's competition.
- Myrtle suggests Cordelia may be the new Supreme. Cordelia revives Zoe so she's in the game.
- Madison fails and Cordelia succeeds at the last Wonder-- divination. Cordelia is the new Supreme. All Hail Cordelia! And somehow her eyeballs grew back. Not sure how that works but I'm glad.
Other observations:
- I really enjoyed Stevie Nick's rendition of "The Seven Wonders". That set just the right mood at the beginning of the episode. I found her first appearance rather uncomfortable but she knocked it out of the park this time.
- The final appearance of Fiona was a touching one. I thought she still had a trick up her sleeve (and would stab Cordelia) but I guess not. I've said it before but that Jessica Lange is one hell of an actress.
- Speaking of Hell, Fiona having to spend eternity with Axeman in their Farmhouse of Love was poetic justice. I personally don't think it's a bad deal considering where Delphine and Marie ended up. Yes there's the knotty pine and the smell of cat piss but come on... And how did Papa Legba trap her in Hell since we learned previously she has no soul?
- Marie and Delphine did not appear in this episode (which was a bummer). They're stuck together in Hell for all eternity.
- Myrtle insisted she be burned at the stake AGAIN for killing the other two council members. That scene didnt work for me. Not sure what the point was. She yelled "Balenciaga" right before she went up in flames. (It's a French fashion house and, yes, I had have to look ithat up). Myrtle should win a prize for strangest character on TV (followed closely by Spalding).
- I'm not sure what purpose next door neighbors Joan and Luke played on the show. That story line didnt go anywhere (except it gave the girls somewhere else to visit). Remember Luke was killed by Joan several episodes ago (he saw in a vision she had killed his father). Joan was then killed by Nan (who forced her to drink Clorox).
- Speaking of Nan, she made no further appearances. Not sure what she's up to in Hell.
- I thought the Delphi Trust (witch hunters) and Hank would be the "big bad" this season. That kinda fizzled.
- FrankenKyle killed Madison (for not trying to resurrect Zoe). Despite her previously displaying powers, she didnt put up much of a fight. How bout that little baby doll hand Spalding used to comb through her hair? That guy is super freaky. Looks like he'll still be hanging out in the attic for all eternity. And where is Baby Ceci? Somebody needs to feed that child.
- Cordelia's appearance on a news show was a fun one. It was a flashback to "AHS: Asylum" and Lana Banana. Feel free to email Cordelia at cordelia@robichauxacademy.com
- Far be it for me to criticize Ryan Murphy (because he has several TV shows and I have none) but the endings of his shows all seem to be in the wrong place. In "Coven" I thought the "supposed" death of Fiona by Axeman (next to the last episode) should be the end. In "Asylum" the third to the last episode should have been the finale. The climax of the show is early followed by a slow finish. Am I the only one that thinks this?
- Too bad we can't revisit the school in the future and see what happens when Delia is about to croak.
Death Toll:
- Fiona- dead from cancer and not at the hands of Axeman; currently stuck in Hell with Axeman
- Axeman- dead, then a ghost, then dead again at the hands of the witches; currently stuck in Hell with Fiona
- Marie- immortal but previously cut into a number of pieces, currently stuck in Hell with Delphine
- Delphine- immortal but previously buried in a box, currently stuck in Hell with Marie
- Hank- dead, head blow off by Queenie
- Queenie- dead once from blowing her head off to kill Hank, currently alive
- Delphi Trust Witch Hunters- all dead at the hands of Axeman
- Luke- dead, smothered by his mother Joan, was cremated
- Joan- dead, Nan made her drink Clorox
- Nan- dead, drowned by Fiona and Marie as a gift for Papa Legba
- Spalding- dead, killed by Fiona, currently a ghost
- Kyle- dead, killed by Madision, then stitched together from random body parts, currently undead
- Madison- dead, first killed by Fiona, then brought back to life, then strangled by Kyle, DEAD TWICE
- Zoe- was dead, impaled on fencing, brought back by Cordelia, currently alive
- Myrtle- dead, burned at the stake, then brought back to life by Misty, then burned again at the stake by Cordelia, DEAD TWICE
- Misty- dead, killed by townspeople, then resurrected, then killed again during the Seven Wonders, currently stuck in Hell in a science class
Grade: 4 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). I will definitely miss the crazy witches at Miss Robichaux’s Academy for Exceptional Young Ladies. The season was at times up and down but overall I loved the characters! Here's to more fun next season on "AHS: Carnival".
TV: Heavy On Sci Fi, Horror & Adventure; Light On Reality
