The Returned Episodes 8 Recap: The Horde (Season Finale)

And so we are at the final episode of season 1. That went WAY too quickly. Unlike others, I really didn't expect many answers to be revealed in the finale so I was not disappointed. As always here's my list of NEW questions:
  • Everything we've seen thus far happened in the time span of one week? I'm tired and need to lay down.
  • If Simon is dead, how did he make a baby with Adele? Will the baby be a zombie? And we still don't know about the specifics of Simon's "supposed" suicide do we? I wonder if Thomas had anything to do with his first death? Maybe he has his eye on Adele way back then.
  • Mme Costa continues to be the harbinger of doom. “They’re going to get their revenge one day, the dead”. They should rename her Debbie Downer.
  • When the Revenants asked for the return of all the dead people, they forgot about Serge. Do they not want him because he's a serial killer? I wouldn't take him either.
  • Again I don't understand why Lucy is the self designated leader. I find her irritating.
  • Where did Laure go? I really she was not killed or, if so, maybe she and Julie can get back together.
  • I keep hoping Victor/Louis is "good" but he made Toni shoot himself so I'm not so sure. Someone should have given Toni a medal for stopping Serge. Why did Julie and Serge not see his mother in the room when Toni died?
  • We've now had two people try to kill themselves by jumping off the dam (Mr Costa who succeeded and Toni who didn't but died later anyway). And what is the significance of the butterfly imagery?
  • That was a powerful scene when the living handed over Camille, Victor, and Madame Costa to the dead (and Julie and Claire went voluntarily). It reminded me of scenes from WWII when the Nazis took people to the camps. It seems no one cares what happens to others... until they come for you and it's too late.
  • How many people were left in the town when it was flooded in the final scene? I may be way off base here but I thought by forcing the living to the mountaintop hideout (The Helping Hand) they had in fact saved their lives.
  • And I'm still going with my previous theory that everyone on this show already died 35 years ago from the first dam break but doesn't know it. See my previous reviews here: http://gmonster320.blogspot.com/search/label/The%20Returned

Episode 8: The Horde (from Wikipedia)
A flashback to the date of Camille's reappearance at the dam shows many Revenants also appearing at the same time. Waking in their car, Victor tells Julie and Laure that a group of Revenants tried to take him from the car in the middle of the night. After rescuing Toni, who attempts to commit suicide by jumping from the dam, the Revenants appear once more, and the group make their escape. On their way to the shelter, Victor discovers that Toni killed his brother, in turn causing his mother's death, and uses his ability to create visions to make Toni shoot himself in the stomach; he dies shortly after arrival. Simon breaks free from his jail cell and visits Adèle again to tell her that she is now pregnant with another child of his, and he kidnaps his daughter Chloé. Thomas arrives at the shelter, and the group realise that there are other Revenants, and that they are coming for them. They arrive at night, led by Lucy, and demand Camille, Victor, and Madame Costa and promise to return Chloé. Madame Costa reluctantly leaves; Julie will not give up Victor, and decides to go with him; and Claire chooses to go with Camille. Chloé is returned, but Lucy then also demands Adèle, promising to go after the living if they do not hand her over. Thomas refuses, and the gendarmes lock the building down before engaging in a shootout. Inside, Chloé tells Adèle that the dead want her because she is pregnant with Simon's baby. In the morning, the Revenants have disappeared, along with the bodies of any gendarmes, and the people in the shelter step out to discover the entire town flooded down in the valley below.

Grade: 5 Monsters (out of 5). I would also give the season 5 Monsters cause I love it just that much. And I just read that we may have to wait till 2015 to see season 2 in the US??? I'm not sure I can wait that long.
