Yeah "Dracula" is FINALLY back with a new episode entitled "Servant Of Two Masters". There was the usual amount of business speak which I couldn't care less about. Grayson has scheduled a public demonstration of his "wireless technology". The Dragons sabotage him by poisoning the neighborhood folk and then blaming his machine. Police confiscate all his equipment and lock the doors to Grayson Energy. And what does the Order of the Dragon want anyway? They don't like the Ottomans because they control the oil. They don't like Dracula (whose invention would mean they weren't dependent on oil). I know they're bent on world domination but I still don't get it.
In plot lines that I do care about we have:
- Harker learns that Dracula set him up to write that damaging article on General Shaw. He is later blindfolded and taken to see members of the Order of the Dragon. They want him to turn against Dracula. It's only a matter of time since Harker is now starting to see Dracula's true colors.
- Meanwhile Dracula is trying to go cold turkey and not fang anyone. He's suffering from the DTs. If there a meeting of Blood Suckers Anonymous nearby? Later Dracula falls off the wagon by eating the cop that shut down his shop-- poetic justice indeed
- Dracula arranges for a dance at Mina's father's hospital. I thought he worked at a mental hospital? Those patients seem way too normal for me. Shouldn't there be some screaming or stabbing or something during rec time? Anyhow Mina shares a quiet moment ALONE with Grayson in the hallway. They are dancing ever so closely. We think they are going to kiss but Dracula's fangs come out at an inopportune moment. Don't you hate it when that happens? Mina notices him trembling and then he runs off. She thinks it's romantic but we know he just has the DTs.
- Renfield has been sent to Budapest to bid on the Dresden Triptych. He wins it for a million korona. Curse you "Dracula' for making me Google Hungarian currency! Renfield is later double crossed by a cleaning lady who takes it to Davenport. The subject of the triptych is revealed. It's Dracula's long dead wife/Mina. This is apparently the sort of thing that went on before we had Instagram and a gazillion pictures of everyone in our lives.
- Dracula is still getting injections so he can romp around in the sunlight. We missed seeing him in his skivvies this week though. He will still never really have the life he wants and blames Van Helsing for giving him false hope. A bloodied Dracula visits him and says "Someday I will kill you for it." OK dude, but you're a vampire. What did you expect? Suck it up!
- Did we know Lady Jayne had a husband? I don't remember hearing that previously. That woman really gets around. Where does she find the time and energy for vampire hunting?
- And, on a related note, the best scene of the episode had Lucy telling Lady Jayne over tea that she was rejected by Mina. Jayne suggests Lucy seduce Jonathan as an act of vengeance. She shows Lucy how to come onto Harker. Jayne then kisses Lucy and throws a little tongue in for good measure. Oh boy, I didn't see that coming. I think I need to take a cold shower.
- I've said it before but I still don't understand Jayne's motives. If she wants Dracula for herself, having Lucy first make a pass at Mina and when that doesn't work seduce Harker doesn't put her any closer to her goal. It fact it does the opposite since this removes all love interests besides Dracula from Mina's realm. Drop me a note in the comments if you have any insight.
- The funniest line of the show was uttered by Dracula when he said "just another casualty of the energy war". That was so stupid it made me laugh out loud.
Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). I would have given this a 3 1/2 but that scene between Lucy and Lady Jayne was super hot! There may only be 3 episodes left before the show ends. Let's hope they're good ones.
