12 Monkeys Episode 7 Review: We Could Just Be Us For A Minute

We've heard a lot about Chechnya and this week we're finally there in an episode entitled "The Keys". In 2015 Cassie and Cole weasel their way into a fundraiser to ask Professor Garrett about a piece of pottery. It was made by followers of the Druze religion. Apparently you have to be born into the group. There are no converts. How it this related to the Chechnya? Did they live there?

Remember This Guy?

Aaron finds out that Operation Troy is a plan to assassinate Adam Wexler. He is a CIA double agent who is hiding out in Chechnya. Why use a virus? Cant you just shoot him like everybody else? On an unrelated note, Cole really enjoyed his chicken skewers and Cassie smells nice.

I Dont Trust You Aaron. Are You Part Of The 12 Monkeys? The Extermination Of Mankind Is Probably All Your Fault.

Let us take a moment to discuss the virus. What do we know about it thus far? The "origin" (remember that freaky decaying body?) was discovered in the Himalayas in the 1980s. I'm still holding out that Cole is the "origin". Remember the splintering problems he had when he was near the body at the lab? Also you'd think people would be smarter than to try to weaponize something so dangerous...but I guess not.

And how about the effects of Cassie's trip to the Red Forest last week? She's either still under the control of that unnamed women and the "Witness" or she has PTSD. I'm going with option number 1. Also who is the "Witness"? It's not Ichabod and Abbie from "Sleepy Hollow" is it? The professor said something about a tea ritual and time's custodian but I'm still not sure how all of this is related.

Anyway back to the action. Aaron and Cassie tell the CIA their plan has gone astray. They at first dont believe them but finally come around. Cole gets the briefcase with the virus in it. To make a long story short, Alex and his men are exposed to the virus. There's a gun battle. Alex dies but not before he tells Cole about the army doing something in Tokyo in 1987 at a place called White Dragon. Cole is also injured. He calls Cassie and tells her that when he (Cole) shows up in one week she must NOT tell him he's about to be killed. Remember the only reason he's in Chechnya in the first place is because of what they learned in the future. The CIA bombs the site so the virus cant escape since the Russians are on their way to retrieve it. In a week, FutureCole shows up. He and Cassie have a talk. She almost tells him he's going to die but she refrains. He splinters away. Cassie is devastated.

I'll Always Remember The Chicken Skewers

Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). As I mentioned previously, thinking about all this time travel gives me a headache. I've given up and am just trying to enjoy wherever the show leads. Those of us waiting for some intimate moments between Cole and Cassie got our wish this week. I think they're slowly growing on me as a couple. Where to next week? It looks like Tokyo and then we have to visit the Himalayans at some point. As always please leave your thoughts and time travel theories in the comments below.
